Topic: 20:Twenty World Cup Posted: 18 November 2005 at 1:27pm |
When do you think that this competition should be introduced to the world because it only seems a matter of time before it happens, it would seem that the Champions Trophy would be scrapped for this version.
Also how would people view this game, is just for the big hitters who would be able to hit sixes and fours every ball or likes of batsmen who gets singles to start off their innings. For example, Chris ***le is very much so a boundary hitter or say batsmen who is more accustomed to looking for ones and twos. I also read earlier in the year that the asian countries would be at a disadvantage because they are more wristy players rather that big hitters, how do people react to this?

first thing, i hate 20 20s. they are just too quick. i know there is a lot of slogging but it just doesn't show how good a player really is. 20 20 world cups would be a waste of time.

Well, they've already held a Twenty:20 World Club type competition and
I imagine it would be a considerable money spinner so wouldn't be too
surprised to see it some time in the future.
For me, 2020 has done it's job, i.e introduced new people to cricket
and put bums on seats (although arguably the Ashes did an equally good
job) but the cricketing purists will never come round to it.
However, as a tour opener before ODIs I think it's a nice idea (as
we've seen with Aus v Eng, NZL v Aus, NZL v RSA.) Any more would be too
much.

yea, but 20 20 is just too short, it's not enough cricket. 40 overs of cricket doesn't give me enough excitement.

I don't think anyone would like to have a 20 20 world cup because they are so quick and end so soon. They don't give you enough time to get involved in the game and get all excited.

yeah i totally agree with you saad. 20 20 matches are just slogging,
anyone can win it. If there was a 20 20 world cup, bangladesh would
have an equal chance of winning as australia. It is just a gamble

Exactly, its a wild slog. No team or player gets to actually show off their/his talent. Their is no guarantee which team will win because it's all about luck.
