Congratulations to Ramprakash, hopefully 100 100s won't be too far away now as well.
Real shame he never made it at test level, he could probably be quite a good test batsmen if he was picked now, but he's had his chances

youre right, he isn't anywhere near as good as the top crop of batsmen, I never said he was. It was Vaughan that said that. All I was saying is that's his opinion and people should respect that, even if it's not correct in other people's eyes. Wasn't taking a stab at you mate. ![]() |

It shows that the required mentality is a totally different concept at test level, which proves anyone wrong who believes county cricket, or any other form of cricket for that matter, is near in contest.

youre right there bondy, spot on! How many guys look wonderful in nets but cant buy a run in matches. In my cricket club, we have about 50 of them.

Ramprakash has been a prolific runscorer at County level for many ,
many years. He's got every shot in the book and technically looks
as nigh perfect as anyone playing the game today.
Sadly , he just couldn't produce at the highest level on a regular basis. The selectors were extremely patient with him , knowing just how talented he was , but in the end he just had to be dropped. His legacy might well read something along the lines "A naturally gifted batsman , fluent , asthetically pleasing , a run machine , but............" You can guess the rest. |

They tell me Cullinan was a terrific batsman with good technique, before warney got inside his head, it shows how mental a game like cricket can be.

Cullinan had everything too 143 - a real class act and still the
youngest South African to score a 1st class hundred when still only
16.
Warne definitely messed with his head and Cullinan just had no answer. The funny thing was that he played spin really well - except Warne. He made plenty of runs on the subcontinent and was a real treat to watch. He scored quickly and was especially good through the cover region. The mental glitch was evident whenever SA played Australia and for that reason Cullinan won't be remembered as a South African great. |

Take Mark Richardson for example. He wasn't the most gifted or prolific batsman ever, but he certainly had what it took mentally! Astounding concentration with a nagging ability to frustrate the bowler into submission!!

Yes Bondy there's many a batsman who maximised what natural
talent they possessed by concentrating incredibly hard - Mike Atherton
and Gary Kirsten are two that come to mind , along with Richardson.

I've always though Richardson has the least talented out of any successful batsman. Unless you know otherwise.. |

I dont think Collingwood's very talented but he's still a bloody good batsman. You can tell he's got a good work ethic.

Not a great judge then ehh top-of (wasn't that a monkey in the 70s children show Pipkins)? Collingwood is a class act, always has been - ask Warney why he tried to wind him up so much.

i mean he hasnt got as much talent as Pietersen or Flintoff who are natural timers of the ball. I am, by no means saying he isn't a class act, not by any means. I am merely saying I think he works harder than most of the international players today. Another one is Geoff Boycott, he spent hours trying to get his bat totally straight against anyone who would bowl at him. Also Vijay Singh apparently practises 8 hours a day, yet still isn't as good as Tiger as Tiger is far more naturally talented.

Odd opinion, Collingwood is one of the finest timers of a stroke you are ever likely to see.

through hard work, all the commentators say he works harder than most at his batting, I am not knocking the mans ability at all but I dont think he is as naturally gifted at timing the ball than the guys like Pietersen or Flintoff. Boycott says it perfectly "Collingwood uses every ounce of his ability" |

Congratulations to Ramprakash for scoring 30000 FC runs. But he failed at test level because of his weakness against genuine fast bowlers which he could come over. And it was sp unlucky for him that during his career, there were lot of great genuine fast bowlers e.g Wasim,Ambrose,Donald,Waqar & others.

Yep Shoaib, those were the days of watching some good test cricket. You had to be patient and very gritty with those fellas.

Ha, I have been watching some comparision of Ram Prakash with Sachin. I'm not a great fan of Sachin though. But I wonder does it make sence comparing a Master with a school kid in cricket?
