    Posted: 27 April 2006 at 1:25pm

I read a book and it had the top 5 unusual cricket matches:

  • 1735 - Two teams in Bromley played a game of cricket on horseback
  • 1976 - A team of onw-legged Greenwich pensioners beat a team of one-armed Greenwich Pensioners by 103 runs
  • 1823 - The crews of the ships Hecla and Fury played a game at Igooli in Antarctica
  • 1838 - In Manchester, eleven 'first choice cricketrs beat eleven men and a catapult
  • 1931 - At Knockholt a team of players all called Smithers beat a team who were all named Streatfield

I also believe that the 1st ever international match was between the USA and Canada....in around 1844. That would have to be a great trivia night question!

Apparently cricket was very popular in America up until the time of the Civil War (1861-1865).  Unfortunately some idiot than thought up baseball.....

I guess if One day cricket and Twenty/20 cricket was thought of earlier, the Yanks wouldn't have had a need to discover Baseball....

My blood chills at the thought of Americans taking up cricket. Just imagine how many adverts they can fit into a 5 day test match!!

Good to see I'm not the only anti-french on the forum team!!

The only good thing to come out of France is the Channel Tunnel.
It's a long way to the shop, if you want a sausage roll.
