 How is it that he can renege on a 3 year contract ?  SurelyWarwickshire must be compensated after he pulls the plug after 12months?  They invested plenty in the lad , relocation ,accommodation and quick promotion into the 1st XI , nevermind all thatdosh.

    It appears contractual obligations no longer matter inany sport , they're not worth the paper they're written on.  Turnit around and see what would happen if the county tried to terminate acontract early and see the hoohaa then.
         It's unprofessional and unethical in my eyes .

Yeah. Found this out today as well. He will play for the Lions soon if everything goes to plan. Very good news for SA cricket...perhaps counties will be more reluctant to sign SA youngsters now.
1st the whole Petersen debacle and then Van Jaarsveld, has really made the UCB sit up and take notice. I wouldn't be surprised if they were very much involved in bringing him back.

 He could well end up with nowhere to play.  I'd expectcounties to be very wary of signing him up and the money from domesticcricket here is average, at best.  I can only think the powersthat be have made some promises that have swayed him.
          If this is aknee jerk reaction , he could regret it for the rest of his life.

And I've heard that they signed Wavell Hinds too as a kolpak player ofcourse! Hinds won't lose out really, he's in no way close to getting a recall to the Windies team soon. Best he try and learn something next season and see if he can then do something for Jamaica and make a return. Money was a major factor - Jones felt he was worth more (having just lost a central contract) than Glamorgan were prepared or able to offer him, given an appalling injury record and it looks like Worcestershire have taken the gamble on him.

"Our offer was a very fair one. We had to balance Simon'sunderstandable need for financial security after losing his centralcontract with the fact that he has had a number of injury problems overthe past few years, but we believe we got that balance absolutely right."

 Simon Jones is leaving Glamorgan after a bit of soul-searching.  Worcester looks like they've secured his services - let's hopethe lad's a good swimmer!

   Nice to read that Glamorgan wish him well and understandthat he needs a new challenge.  Money apparently , was not themotivating factor - nice that , if true.

  The South African board are in negotiation with the ECB on thekolpack issue Clobs.  The major concern is the clause that statesthat players won't be available for international duty - the southafricans want this removing from the contract.
        I can see their point too -so many youngsters are taking up kolpacks , it's a huge loss to SouthAfrican cricket.

A good bit of West Indians are making it back in County cricket. Collins has signed for Surrey I think for 2 years. 6 international have made appearance over the last 2 years I think! I've been in touch with Somerset to try and clear this up, and Omari Banks was offered a trial, but he wasn't offered terms, hence his non-appearance in the second team.

The former West Indies offspinner Omari Banks has joined Somerset as a Kolpak player for the 2008 season.

Banks, 25, played 10 Tests and five ODIs for West Indies between May2003 and August 2005, but has since failed to break into theinternational set-up.

His finest hour came at Antigua in 2003, in only his second Test, whenhe scored 47 not out from No. 8 as West Indies chased a world-record418 to beat Australia.

"Omari is a greatsigning and will give us strength in depth in key positions in oursquad," said Somerset's director of cricket, Brian Rose. "He will be ahuge asset to us and will be very dangerous in one-day cricket and theTwenty20 Cup."

Banks does not countas an overseas player as he was born in Anguilla, a Britishprotectorate. He spent two months in the Leicestershire second team,with a solitary senior appearance against Pakistan.
