Exactly , the fixing case looks very weak. They targeted the ones who were once part of now defunct ICL, they knew they would get one or the other sensational news/rumors ... true of false does not matter.They just wanted the  news that they could sensationalize.

All this looks like players tried to get better contracts , meanwhile they were trying to impress that they could do something more for them as they looked to pester them about that.Only time will tell what exactly happened, was it just bluff by players or editing to fit and sensationalize.Did the players think that they could simply bluff anything to agents till they get contract then abandon their words later.

The TV channel could be in a big trouble if they are trying to bring out something without strong proof.The timing of videos, the bits and pieces of evidences which is year old ... all this does not look a solid proof.

Everything will get clear , BCCI and IPL has zero tolerance against such practices.They would bring all the truth out, as no one would kill a hen which lays golden egg.

The channel reporters have been said to have hounded players around relentlessly for an year or two(you must know these scandalizing animals in India TV,they would crucify a saint just to make a sensational headline,the channel is notorious for spicy chats-once were adamant about doomsday arrival and kept running the story 24 seven for quite a while only to later on denying it and how it was just a theory for weeks,the name that this channel has made in bogus reporting is legendary)and best they have come up with is these five players who are dissatisfied either of not getting a proper shot as they were not even in the final eleven of their respective franchise- hence bad mouthing this and that,and desperately seeking a better offer from a different club.

and worst they have come up with is this second grade player who again is not a regular,was offered more then 100 thousand dollars by them,double his present salary- as SALARY from a different club plus the chance to play, and asked him later to do if he could do something along these lines-match fixing if they got him playing this better club, they then got it out of his mouth that most he could do is bowl a no ball and that in once in 20 to 50 matches.


remember there was/must have been a lot of cut and paste and twists to all the recordings.

now give me a camera and funds to approach anyone anywhere, after an year or two of this, it shouldn't be hard  to come up with some low grade hopeless players to do some talking in any part of the world.They kept me glued to tv in hope of watching big names getting revealed as billed by the channel- and they brought up these who are mostly never heard of before,who were most of the times were shown to be keen on getting a better franchise while not talking of fixing.

besides one of them said on record - no one can fix the matches in the way people seem to believe, one could bat slow or ball no-balls as some possible ways, he said a six cant be fixed,i say a fantastic catch can't be fixed neither can be a good ball or shot.

the recording they showed in a local a list match contained a no-ball which was as obtrusive as the one Amer bowled.Its not that easy, even with the skills of Don Bradman coupled with the acting skills of an oscar winner actor a player could hardly dodge the suspicion and fix every shot or ball.

There are two aspects here Spot Fixing and Player Payment.

This looks more of an issue of player payments rather than dirty spot fixing.Well regarding the player payment I always felt that IPL governing council erred in putting a player cap on certain players.Why is it that when IPL franchise was sold, there was no cap on bidding a franchise ownership.Similarly even if an uncapped player is worth and performs better , he should get better deal.

Going forward IPL should scrap the player cap.That is the way to go.

On the sting operation and video clippings
- Incidentally the all the players whose name has propped were the ones who had joined ICL
- Shalabh Srivastava (Kings XI Punjab) : Is not a part of IPL-5 Kings XI team.( the one who is supposed to have agreed to bowl a no ball),but he claims he is innocent , he claims all talk was regarding contract with agent.
- Only TP sudhindra is part of DC, but his video clipping was of some local match. (So if found guilty , has to be punished accordingly)
- Monish Mishra's tape was about trying to get more money , better contract. Well even in video , sometimes he says he was paid 1 crore , then he says 1.5 crore.Was he just trying to increase his worth.

Anyway , whatever ... guilty of any sort should be punished accordingly.

So where is the question of IPL getting fixed here ? Anyway some people will never understand.

One more thing, the sting operation was done 10 to 12 months back.Why did they want to expose this during IPL.They should have exposed all this well before IPL started, they had all this evidence before or were they trying to sensationalize few more things? hoping and waiting for few more incidents that would put more doubts ? or were they hoping to implicate few natural slip up by players on field as fixed.

Spot Fixing case looks weak here, but it cannot be ruled out.Nine franchise and so many players, BCCI/IPL can't control everything or monitor every player 24/7.So they got work at hand to clean up if at all there is a fixing mess.

I hardly care about all this... but I find the argument of IPL having high profile or highly reputed and rich people hence it cannot be fixd to be completely illogical... some of the biggest scams in the world have seen some of the richest people being involved, the 2G scam in India has accused some very very high profile people of corruption, so that argument is just a waste.

Having said that I'm not saying the IPL or some of it's matches are fixed or anything as such, they may be, they may be not, I don't know and honestly I don't care...

So The IPL governing council has suspended five players named by the India TV sting operation alleging corruption until a committee appointed to investigate the accusations conducts its inquiry. TP Sudhindra (Deccan Chargers), Mohnish Mishra (Pune Warriors), Shalabh Srivastava (Kings XI Punjab), Amit Yadav (Kings XI Punjab) and Bali were the players suspended, according to IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla.

If they are serious than they must get the main players out it wont change anything by removing 5 useless player just to show the world that they really care. For me if they really care than they must look for the big fish becuz without them fixing cant be possible specially captains.

It's in the best interests of the PCB to continue winning matches - in terms of fan support, sponsor support, team unity, morale in the dressing room and so on. I saw the video, as Raj pointed - its of some other tournament. Ban the player if he is found guilty. IPL is too high profile, spot fixing won't be easy here. It could well be a bluff form the press to earn cheap name.
