BP , Eng vs Pak Tests was a closely contested games. Look at the last two test match scoreboards, England fell short of 70 runs in the two tests.They never got thrashed except 1st test mate.So it was natural that England fought tooth and nails , coz they knew that they were just 1 good partnership away from victory. Personally I would say they got one selection wrong in the middle order, which now they have rectified.

BP, In mid 90's to mid 2000's ( till Flitoff's magic 2005 Ashes) all the Ashes looked the same to me , it always looked like England never wanted to win and looked as if they never tried to win. To be frank when a team is loosing they look like bunch of losers. It is easy to blame them.

India losing to BD is another sign of rut they have got into recently , In CB series they played well in patches, but again they could not make it to finals. India have been On-Off in all formats since the WC glory.It will take time to settle down.

On Test match front , I am happy that RD got retired.

Congratulations to RD for fantastic career, he has been a great player and his contribution can never be measured coz he meant more than what he scored.Stats say 13288 but to me the actual numbers are way past what stats suggest.

Now I just want Lax to follow suit before next test match begins.It's time for the new guys to take over , infact it been long overdue.

Australians are starting to look weary, but a fantastic effort from Warner in the finals series, with 2 tons and 48, including 163 in which he batted to the last ball of the match. I thought McKay proved himself to be a good ODI alternative to some of the other options, and it's not a bad thing to have a guy like him around for ODIs, to keep the likes of Pattinson, Harris, Hilfenhaus, Siddle and Cummins fresh for test cricket. Dan Christian was very useful in this series for Australia with the ball and the occasional batting knock, while Michael Clarke's absence will be missed in the ODI leg of the WI series.

In other news, Ponting and Cowan have both come off hundreds for Tasmanian, this is Punter's second ton in a row - he's still in awesome nick, sometimes things don't go your way in limited overs cricket and it's probably a blessing in disguise that he's no longer in the reckoning for ODI cricket. I think Cowan and Ponting will both tour WI, with Cowan opening with Warner, Watson at 3, Ponting at 4, Clarke at 5, Hussey at 6 and Wade at 7. Haddin will possibly be dropped, while Forrest, Bailey (I really don't know why...) and David Hussey will be in the reckoning as well.

Sri Lanka is a good team, not world beaters neither definitely the worse. You can count on them to put on a good show, although not necessarily winning constantly. WOW! what an innings that was from David Warner, 163... on his maiden ODI ton, that was one of the best knocks I've ever seen! terrific batting! AUS go 1-0 despite a late SLN surge lead by Kulasekara and Tharanga.

Also Brett Lee was brilliant with the new ball.

Yeah, the right finalists in my opinion. It wouldn't have been fair for IND to go through when they have been miserable all tour and finally produce in their final game thanks to their star young batsmen who has been the only one who has showed any fight. SLN, in contrast, have looked all along like they wanted it more. I look forward to a tight final.

No way will they drop Warner for Clarke. Forrest will be the obvious choice to miss out.

SLN actually go through, they beat Australia for the third time in 4 games... the finals should be interesting because in the last 7 matches between the teams in AUS, SLN have beaten Australia 6 times!

Good come back for Pattinson, a hatrick and 5 wicket haul for Christian,who do you drop once Clarke comes in? Warner? ... and finally Malinga shows up!!!

India will be disappointed but if you ask me honestly, I think the final is being played between two deserving teams.

It's the worst I have ever seen Malinga bowl. It was really poor captaincy from Jayawardene to keep persisting with him when guys like Herath were proving to be economical. That last match I found somewhat troubling. Why did the Lankans persist with seam when it was exactly what Kohli wanted ? No doubt a brilliant innings , but the sceptic in me questions the application of the Lankan bowlers. Has anyone seen Malinga sent down such rubbish throughout an entire spell ? That over that went for 24 - every ball was full and on leg stump - Boycott's Mam would've put them away with that famous stick of rhubarb !
So to get the final which the sponsors and TV need , Australia will belt the Lankans in the final match and then probably take the final to the decider before beating the Indians.

What do you mean he doesn't play them consistently, Mikey? He averages around 48 after 80 odd ODI matches with 9 ODI hundreds. He is a gem is Kohli, quite some hitting that! but I don't agree that India can win the finals should they make it, AUS will be overwhelming favorites no matter who they play in the finals.

Quite a disappointment for SLN, time and again india have got the better of them in crucial matches, be it the Asia cup 2010, WC 2011 or this game today.

Sam's statement is true, they didn't even realise they were still it and just wanted to go home. This last ditch effort by Kohli was purely a masterclass, and it was really a situation of 'let's throw everything we've got at it, and hopefully it comes off'. Thats going too far Kahmad even if they reach the finals still they will struggle to win it and the way SL bowled even C.Martin would hit a six their bowling was just horrible they were never trying to win the match all they wanted to do was to not let India win inside 40 overs.

I think I would agree, after winning the WC the Indian team instead of taking their game to a higher level have rather took it to a new low level. It is like winning the WC was the only thing they wanted, winning the WC can be the most important thing, but it shouldn't be the only important thing.

The Indian crowd is not happy but for them the WC win still matters more than these defeats, I think the only real eye opener for the Indian people would have been a series loss to Pakistan, no one would have taken that, but that series ain't happening, BCCI is too smart to let that happen at this stage.

India can still qualify for the finals if they beat SLN by a bonus point tomorrow and if SLN go on to lose against AUS... and would you believe it, Dhoni and the entire Indian team weren't even aware of this, they just don't care, they want to go home.

I'm not saying becuz he is out of touch(which i think he is not he is in good form just missing out on big scores) but the reason is he is already 39 in 2 months and they need to start for the World Cup and even Tendulkar i think have done it all no goal are left for him he should play Test matches till he gets 45 but from ODIs he should go.

Mystery, are you serious? How long has Ponting been out of touch compare to Tendulkar? Remember many ah men in 2008 called for Sachin's retirement when he average 15 against Sri Lanka. Check his records since then. Everyone goes through a bad patch, and Tendulkar will only leave on his own terms, no one in the setup is stupid enough to attempt to chase out Tendulkar.

No Miky i dont think they will drop(rest) him becuz they are already struggling with Raina, Nohit and Tendulkar. This India team has a disgrace, particularly the batting and if wholesale changes are not made then BCCI is only continuing to expose itself as a sham. It's all good and well having this huge star factor in your team and trying to draw in fans and money, but if none of them perform the fans will switch their TVs off and stop turning up to the grounds. India need to manufacture some new stars. Anybody that plays well will become instantly popular, doesn't mean you have to keep has-beens in the side. Sehwag has done NOTHING of note this series - give him a rest, tell him to go back to domestic cricket and try someone else out. The Asia cup should be very interesting, it'll be a case of 4 Asian teams having their own problems fighting it out against each other.

once cummins and pattinson return I think McCay and Hilfy will have to make way, I still feel Brett Lee has to be in the ODI set up, Cummins and Pattinson will learn a lot from him if they bowl him him.

But India have made ordinary bowlers look world class on this tour so 5 wickets against them is not a big thing but i'm not saying he is a bad bowler but Australia have alot of better ODIs bowlers than him.

Dinesh Chandimal has been instrumental in SLN's success of late, he really is a very very good find for Sri lanka, Thiramanne has looked good too, and three all rounders in Mathews, Perera and Maharoof give SLN excellent balance. Super stuff, I didn't expect this from the lankans.

what this means now is that India are in serious trouble, I'm sure AUS won't make the mistake of appointing Watson as the 12th man again!
