I find it best to tell myself that I'm going to block the first few balls from them until I'm used to the pace. I will only break this if they send down a full toss or a long hop which deserves to go to the boundary.

 

Once I'm used to the pace however I start to play more expansively and make them change the field alot. Playing sweep shots is a great way to do this to the spinners as they normally put a man or 2 on the sweeps, leaving room down the ground.

Doing this can really put a slower bowler off of his game because he's more worried about his field placings than what he's going to bowl.

 

Dancing down the track shouldn't really be done until he's bowled you a few so you know kind of what's coming in the way of pace etc.

 

I dont think there's anything wrong with dancing down the track but you've got to pick the right ball and you have to have good enough judgement to defend the ball if its not there to hit.

 

I think the best way to play spinners is to nudge them around and you can easily accumilate 6 an over with little risk. Saying that the odd big shot can be very demoralising for a spinner and gives the oppositions captain a problem or two.

 

I'm usually not new to the crease. I'm usually settled and playing the other bowlers fairly well, my mindset just turns to HIT!HIT!HIT!  Which is a bad thing.
