5 Indian cricketers banned by the BCCI for indulging in corrupt activities or loose talk. TP Shudindra, who actually has a very impressive domestic record and going by the quality of Indian bowlers at present, could have cery soon made it to the national team is the worst hit as he is handed out a life ban for allegedly committing Spot Fixing in a Ranjhi Trophy game.

I feel sorry for the lad, but then there is no place for any malpractices in the game.

Sam, I don't think education will help much. What's engraved into one's mentality is hard to change. Windians these days love fast cash, hence IPL over Windies. I remember Zuhair once saying about 70% of Pakistan is corrupt. It just lead me to think that education won't solve anything that easy. The case of Danish shows the ignorance on the part of most pakistani cricketers which is why I feel there is a much greater need of proper education and the consequences of wrong doing in Pakistan cricket, I think the attitude of the players is like, I can do anything wrong and as long as I don't get caught it is not wrong and even if I get caught, I'll get away with it.

Even at school level and college level I don't remember one incident when anyone of us tried to under-perform or lose, I played a lot gully cricket too and there was one of my cousins who used to play for my team but he used to under-perform so that his brother's team can win, I warned him a couple of times but when things didn't improve I saw to it that he is never a part of our group again, despite he being my cousin.

My point is that such things are unacceptable even at the lowest of levels, how can a national board like the PCB be so ignorant of the practices of it's own cricketers, why are there no educational sessions? why can't there be more strict measures to stop this at the lowest of levels?

Oh boy, thanks for that insight Zuhair. Only time I came across such thing here, is where a guy deliberately dismissed himself to the end, so that we would play the weaker team in the semi finals. And guess what, we did play the weaker team, won the semi's. Met back the same team in the final who he out himself against. The same guy won the finals for us. We were 66-7 and he made a sparkling 83 and took our score to 170 odd. Strategic playing from him, its a risk I would never take or ever encourage anyone to take. Kaneria being involved in such act does not surprise me one bit. I studied and played with him in the same school (he was a couple of years senior, yet I played as as the team's spinner ahead of him). He tried to bribe our school team coach to get a place in the playing eleven and was suspended for a month from the school. At the club level, I rememebr facing his team in a local tournament and he told his boys to under-perform and they did. I saw Kaneria interviewed and he maintains he's done nothing wrong and is talking to his lawyer. The police didn't go through with a prosecution believing there was insufficient evidence , but that didn't deter the ECB. The evidence given at the hearing strongly suggested that Kaneria was a leading figure in recruiting players to underperform , which led to the lifetime ban.

Salman Butt might be free , but he can't set foot in the UK for 10 years. The release of non-UK nationals on early parole means immediate deportation.

No court should ever entertain such appeal against a ban. Let him take his punishment!! Do the crime, do the time!

But, being a cricketer, it will be extremely hard for Amir, not being able to play in sanctioned games. That will hurt a lot!

I for one BP would have been more sympathetic had it been a Zimbabwean. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that had it been ANY cricketer from any nation, I'd have felt very bad for him and would never have wished Jail terms for anyone. I was the happiest to see Gibbs play again, I felt terrible for Cronje, I was devastated when Azhar was blamed. I was also very happy to see Mark Vermeulen play again for ZIM (he was accused of Arson).

Also Spinny is right, I never said they shouldn't be punished, I only thought taking out their cricketing careers (at least for 2 of them) was big enough a punishment. Jail was making things worse, but then again as I said, the only positive I see is that hopefully the youngsters won't dare to do such things looking at the fate of these three.

mystery - I should have phrased it better. Their talent is of course one reason for leniency but do you think there would be such loyal support behind these guys had they been playing for Zimbabwe? They deserved what they got but saying that asking for leniency becuz they are Pakistani is not fair the only reason we want to see them again is becuz of their talent.

Yup Sledge, they won't be playing for sure. I think Asif's appeal will be more of leniency rather than of claiming innocence, may be he'll say that he has already suffered enough and should be allowed to play so that he can look after his family.

I don't really love them Spinny, but I do feel sorry for them. I still can't get over the fact that dangerous criminals get away with very serious crimes but three international cricket starts are suffering in the jail for one mistake! On one hand I'm happy that this will serve as a BIG deterrent for others which is great for this wonderful game on the other hand, I really really feel sorry for those three.

Considering the fact that the jailed players will be spending only half of their terms in prison and then will be released on probation, will Aamer be released from the detention center on Feb 2nd? because he 3 months (half term) will be completed on 2nd Feb I believe.

Going by that even Asif should be released by May 2nd, it's only Salman Butt who'll have to be in there for a long time.

Money is a powerful thing, it can get the better of the strongest willed of men. You can be a nice and humble man and still fall into its enticing web. By contrast, a serial killer who bludgeons, decapitates and rapes several innocent young females is not a nice man simply because his very actions contradict our definition of "nice". It is not right to cast aspersions onto anyone without reasonable evidence and so saying that you believe Kamran is innocent on account of him appearing "nice" is perfectly acceptable whereas Ted Bundy had a huge body of evidence stacked against his supposed "nice" nature. When evidence is presented to the contrary then we can reconsider but in the absence of sufficient detail and accuracy in the pertinent accusations, Kamran is innocent.

NO Guyz, I'm not defending Kamran or anyone and I'm not saying this just because they are Pakistani's, any player from any team I would have supported them unless they are proven guilty. The reason why I believe Kamran is innocent - I don't know but whenever I have heard Kamran speak he just looked innocent to me, he is very humble in his statements and comes across as a nice man. I could be wrong but then, he was cleared by the ACSU, I understand Majeed took his name in court but we already know this, he took his name even when the spot fixing scandal broke out, both his and Wahab's name he took back then as well.

I trust people that has always been my nature, but I know not everyone is how he appears, so I might be terribly wrong, I don't deny that.
