Monty Panesar didn't begin bowling spin until he was 16, and as the cases with McGrath and Ambrose show, then it's not too late for you now. He used to play cricket in primary school, and local club cricket for the U16s, but he was always rejected by his teammates and captain and would never got a bat or bowl so he left home to live in a caravan park at 18, I think, and played Grade Cricket in Sydney and got picked for NSW at 19 years old.

Boy, I wonder what his U16s captain would be saying now. LOL

The most important thing to focus on is to challenge your ability. I loved playing in the lower grades and bouncing the hell out of kids and old men. If there's a cricket club near there then you should go down or phone the person in charge and see what's happening. I'm pretty sure they'll want someone who could have as much talent as you say.

What part of Surrey are you from, then maybe people can tell you some decent clubs near where you live.

Talent is talent. When you have it you have it. As Don Bradman himself said, he had no magic wand to make him so good. In fact he stated there were many better than him. he simply wanted it more. Alex, if you want to pursue this then do it. If memory serves, McGrath did not start playing till he was about 17-18 and a bloke called Ambrose simply showed up to have a bowl in his late teens. PLay for the enjoyment and the rest will fall into place.

Hey guys,
 
Im new to this site and i just wanna see your opinions on my situation please.
 
Basically im 17 years old and i was captain of my primary and secondary school in cricket.  i was brought up in my garden how to play cricket since i was tiny by my 3 brothers.  im a leg spinner and a great left handed batsmen, i got the highest score for my secondary school in a 30 over match agaist another school in our league and also was main wicket taker every year and when i was 11 i played for surrey colts for only 1 match tho because then i left primary school. i didn't play for a club all of secondary school ( i dunno why time went but i played at school level ) but im still very keen on the game and play alot. Do u reckon at the age of just turned 17 am too old still to go pro or at least a higher level if i join a club this year??? please guys i dunno what to do and my friends aint keen on cricket so their advice is useless to be honest! Smile
