Need advice for my leg spin grip : I use a complete opposite grip...

    Author: Ropper
Subject: 5218
Posted: 29 January 2013 at 11:55pm

I use a complete opposite grip & wrist delivery than Shane Warne & Terry Jenner. I have always bowled their way and have learned to be like them as its all the information you can get on leg spin bowling (and rightly so it is so successful). I found bowling this way I could only produce a big bouncing top spinner. My bowling is very accurate but I struggled to get a standard leg break. I persisted & persisted with the Warney style but it just wasn't a natural delivery style for me. So I began to experiment, it has taken me 5 years of experimenting but I believe I have found a regular big turning leg break. While experimenting I also produced a slightly different style flipper. I call my leg break UNORTHODOX legspin as it is different to the standard. It's huge turning with better natural variation and quite simple to learn, and my accuracy has improved even more. It really works with my action and I will be using it full time this season so I can justify results. I used it once last season and took 5-32 off 8 overs in the second last game of the season. It felt a little scary using it in a game because I hadn't fully developed it with a consistent action. So I shelved it until after the season as we were in the finals, now I'm ready to use it fully as I have the consistent action it feels comfortable. Once I get through the season I plan on producing a you tube video to fully explain the unorthodox leg spin style and hopefully give people option who struggle with the standard leg break. Cheers! & stay tuned.

    Author: thatsawesome
Subject: 5218
Posted: 05 January 2011 at 11:04am

I've noticed that everyone who bowls leg spin seems to use the same grip as Warney, with the pointer and middle fingerup on the ball, and the two other fingers right down (if that makes sense).I haven't had a lot of coaching ( I just got taught how to hold a bat properly at the start of this season!), and I have developed my own grip. My two middle fingers are up top of the ball, and the other two on both sides drop right down.It is basically like the normal grip except the two fingers that are on top are the middle finger and 3rd finger, with the pinky and pointer being right down.If that doesn't make sense I might post a pic tomorow of my grip. But I was wondering, my grip works for me, but should I chaange to the conventional grip?

Also, when I get a big leg break, it always bounces WAY too high.I pitch it very full outside leg, batsmen misses and it goes quite far OVER middle.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
