Why jail? firstly because they deserve it, secondly it will stop the pakistan public getting their hands on them. They have shamed the whole nation.

Amir's brother was on BBC yesterday saying he talked to Amir and he said he didn't do anything wrong.  Right or wrong, who knows.
 
And really and truly, giving out pitch condition and weather information shouldn't be called match-fixing, spot fixing or whatever you want to call it.  Geez, the day before the Bangladesh test match here in St. Vincent, I already knew the pitch conditions (saw it myself up close and i'm not a player, official etc) and weather conditions is always on tv although local knowledge seems far more reliable here than the net etc that continually predict thunderstorms here when there is bright sunshine for the whole day.  Pitch conditions is also given before the game starts.
 
As far as i'm concern, that's a waste of money by any bookie to try and get that information, especially in the limited format of the game.  Sometimes groundsmen update you on the condition of the wicket even 3 to 2 days before the game.

I'm with Sam why everyone is after them? the only thing which can prove Pakistani team doing fixing is the pictures of Wahab and Umar other than that there is nothing that proof's that they really have done it. Video can be fake in the video there is no Asif, Amir or Butt.

sanity prevails - the 3 players have been dropped from the squad for the rest of the tour. the cricket can be played now.

Another thing that has amazed me throughout this episode is that there is no mention of Uamr AMin and especially Wahab Riaz - the two guys who were actually seen with the bookie and Wahab also received the jacket allegedly full of pounds. You said you hope they get away with it, meaning they are guilty but the burden of proof is too great so we just forget it and pretend nothing ever happened.  No one is picking on Pakistan, they have been offered many 'last chances', for heaven's sake the ECB threw them a lifeline by offering to host their 'home' matches whilst they were unable to play in Pakistan - and look what you get in return.  It seems to me that the world has gone out of its way to support Pakistan and, at a time when there is so much suffering in the country, Pakistani players have disgraced the game for a few quid.  Can you wonder that people are angry, indeed you may not realise just how angry people are - not least here in England, where we are sick of the way this morally bankrupt country brings shame on the game we love.

There is no allegation of match fixing - you know that, so your words are carefully chosen.  To be honest that sickens me.  No one is calling for life bans for simply 'bowling a no ball'.  That gross simplification is exactly the justification Pakistani players offer themselves and the world when they choose to take dirty money to disgrace the game.  In fact I'd go as far to say that you are as bad as they are for feeling no wrong has been done.  And comparing it to giving weather reports ..... do me a favour, the BBC do it three times an hour all day long.  No player knows the condition of the pitch until day one and if you watch Sky you will see the likes of Ian Botham telling the world all they need to know about its condition and likely effect on the match - usually wrong, of course.

No one wants a life ban 'whether they are guilty or not' ..... I've not seen a single person say that, you are being disingenuous here.  But I believe in all probability that they are guilty (I may be wrong) and that they should never make a penny from the game again (I believe I am right here), but I fear the burden of proof and the fact that any offence has not taken place in England (all transactions were abroad) means they will 'get away with it' (I sincerely hope not).

In any walk of life you are suspended from work if you are suspected of being guilty of gross misconduct, cricket should be no different.  If they play in the T20 and ODIs the reaction of the crowd will be so hostile as to make the games almost unplayable and, I believe, the England players have so much anger towards these individuals that the matches would be a farce.  There is indeed a reason why no one is guilty until proven, as there are reasons why those where suspicion is high are removed from positions where trust has been broken until the full facts are known.  You wouldn't continue to allow a finance director to work where there was real suspicion of fraud, would you?

look mate, first of all it is very very difficult to say if they really are guilty. The way people have been behaving all around as if the guilt has been proved is in itself quite pathetic. for the sake of argument even if I believe that they are guilty, there is no way that I'd buy in to the argument of imposing a life ban on players for bowling a no ball... but yes, if they have been involved in match fixing then surely they must be banned for life.

people like Herschelle Gibbs have been caught in far more serious offences and have returned after 6 months and every body was so happy to see them back, but when it comes to Pakistani players why everyone wants a life ban without even trying to know whether they are guilty or not? Even Mark Waugh and Shane Warne admitted that they provided Pitch and weather information to bookies, and happily played after that.

The insistence of the ECB that the three players be suspended is also questionable, if we start suspending people based on allegations then 1 week before the World Cup the entire world will be busy in preparing videos and alleging that so and so players are guilty of spot fixing so as to make sure all the top players of opponent teams miss the World Cup. There is a reason why no body is guilty until proven.

I have nothing to gain if these players play again or not, if Pakistan wins or loses or whatever the hell may happen, but I always talk fair and am not biased. I have no interest in posting here either if people believe that I support wrong things because I'd never do that.

This ain't a surprise at all Sam_Ahmed.  Sarwan is one of the players leading the "revolution" against the WICB so this isn't a surprise.  Ramdin deserved this though, no one surely complaining about that.  And it's hard to give JT a central contract when he's always injured, that's just ah waste of money. 

Sarwan own is shocking though, seeing he's back playing now and not out injured.

I'm posting about a totally different topic here and not many would be interested except may be Spinny. Read on cricinfo yesterday that Sarwan, Taylor and Ramdin have not been given central contracts because of injury and poor form.

That was really shocking, Sarwan is as good as Chanderpaul and Gayle, if not better, in fact personally I rate him as the best batsmen in WI and Taylor as the best bowler in WI. Both of them are world class. Can't believe they have been dumped like this. This is more shocking than KP being dropped from the ENG squad.

Seriously had it been any other three players I wouldn't have cared at all... these three are my most favorite among all Pakistani players.... I'm just hoping that they get away with it.

I hate to say this but I had big hopes on the WC this time given Pakistan's bowling strength and also had a firm belief that Salman will do very well in the subcontinental conditions ... all 8 of his ODI centuries have come in the subcontinent. If these three are out, PAK's WC chances are gone.

The NotW is journalistic tripe, but it has to adhere to stringent standards when it comes to reporting and there is absolutely zero chance of this being a fabrication.  A set up, yes - but not a fabrication.  It will have researched this for months if not years and the sting will have been carefully constructed and built up over time.  The NotW usually holds back on revelations to spruce the story up when interest falls, so be prepared for more of the same.

What beggars belief is that betting on small instances within any sport should be allowed when they can be influenced under the banner of "so what, it doesn't alter the outcome".  Notable footballers have come clean on putting the ball out for a throw in early in the game to win a few quid because "it doesn't change the result of the game".  Spead and spot betting in sport is wrong.

Loves Sledger rubbishing social networking sites ..... on a social networking site!!

Now here I am trespassing into the day job (me being a bit of a social media guru).  There is absolutely nothing wrong with any professional using social media.  The big problem with sports and media 'profesionals' is that they are where they are not because of their ability to think (being kind here).  Banning is pointless, you might as well ban them from ever speaking ..... anywhere for fear that what they say will be reported.  It simply doesn't work.  The only way to enable professionals to become good at using social media is to encourage them to use it (with support).  Pietersen's general use of Twitter demonstrates that he really doesn't get it.

This case looked to me a classic instance of sending a personal text not to the intended recipient but to the wrong address in a contact list ..... in this case Twitter.  The rule here is that if you are going to text Twitter updates ..... give it a contact name in your address log that you are not likely to accidently hit (start it with a number "1Twitter" or better still memorise the number).  How many people have updated theit Twitter status with a private message intended for Tom or T****y (Widow)?

Had Pietersen removed the message then immediately posted an "ooops, what an idiot I am, sent a text to Twitter by mistake" he'd have still been ridiculed but at least for the best of reasons, not for deliberately publishing something he shouldn't.  Many English cricketers use Twitter well, banning them all because one of them is a dolt or because the ECB can't be bothered to have proper policies and support is not the answer.

 I've read that the conspiracy theory has support in Pakistan and that's understandable. Yes if that is the case then I am ok with Asif being banned. But I cannot at the moment be sure that he bowled the no ball when it was predicted because the timing of the video been recorded s yet to be known. Thye're playing the best of one hundred against Australia - they should finish just before the plane heads for India.

            As for KP , sending him back to county cricket is the right way to go , I think his head is scrambled.  Cricket 5/6 days a week for the rest of the season should see him back in the runs , hopefully consistently as well.  Let's face it , this English summer he's looked more like a number 9 than a number 4.

 Asif's probably done the dirty deed many more times than the youngster zuhair.  You can't ignore the fact that he bowled the no-ball precisely when predicted.

 Get a grip Sam , this happened in the UK !  Newspapers can't influence the judiciary and to compound what I'm saying , the man has been arrested again on a completely different issue .   The police are investigating that tape and all his dealing and it's guaranteed that if there's sufficient evidence the man will be in the dock and looking at a nice jail term.

What should be banned is bland generic statements.

I'm all for people being able to express themselves freely - perhaps not quite to the extent that Rafiq did, mind you - so have no issue with comments like Pietersen's (the sentiment, if not the timing).

There is not enough evidence to prove anything at the moment.

look what NOTW writes:

This is why I doubt them, The umpire's check the ball every over for God's sake, how can this be true? and if this is true then the entire team is involved in some sort of cheating isn't it?

I think NOTW has indeed give a lot of money to him to say whatever they want him to say, and they assured him that he'll be let off, which is what is happening.

They tried to bring Younus khan's name into this and he has already sent them a notice. Good job Younus. The only reason I'm thinking that the players might have done something wrong is because they are not behaving like Younus, they are not coming out openly and having a go at NOTW.

I'll stop commenting on this now, this is so confusing. God knows who is right and who is wrong! Confused

Hi, All, I know I have been away for a while, but couldn't resist to show my anger. If these allegations are true, which they probably are, I truly feel betrayed as a fan of the Pakistan cricket team, and truly hope those found guilty do serve their punishment, I just hope this problem will be solved for good, and the PCB and whole cricketing world learn something positive from this whole disaster. Thought I'd bring this one up in light of KP's decision to tell the world exactly what he thinks of the decision to drop him for the T20s via his Twitter account.

There's been a bit of a debate about whether it should be banned during matches/series and we've seen Phil Hughes, Azeem Rafiq and now KP embarrass themselves with it.

On the other hand, the likes of Warne, Graeme Smith and Iain O'Brien actually offer useful insight and others can be quite entertaining.

So, I suppose I'm saying do you think players should be able to interact with the general public during matches or could you care less? Let us know which cricketers you do / don't follow on Twitter.

FORMER Test umpire Darrell Hair has claimed cricket chiefs were warned Pakistan could be bowling deliberate no balls more than a DECADE ago.

Hair, whose career was all but ended when he reported Pakistan for ball tampering at The Oval in 2006, was not surprised by the no-ball allegations surrounding Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif in the Fourth Test.

Aussie Hair said: "It didn't shock me at all. When the International Cricket Council's anti-corruption unit was formed a decade ago they went around the world and spoke to all the leading umpires.

"And they said there were concerns in tournaments in places like Sharjah that the Pakistanis were bowling (deliberate) no balls and wides. But they have not been able to get any proof."

Hair also claimed comments made by fixer Mazhar Majeed, who was arrested and then bailed without charge as part of Scotland Yard's investigation, reinforced his belief Pakistan have long engaged in ball tampering.

He added: "I was never in any real doubt all sorts of shenanigans were going on, but unfortunately at the time I couldn't get the support of the ICC.

"There seemed to be a lack of a will to go down that road."
