At no point of time did we string together a series of wins. It was a hit and miss sort of a tournament for us. Had we been a bit more consistent with both bat and ball we could have easily ended up in he top 4.

You ended with a win though.

Dips : Yes we did but that's the way it has been. Some convincing wins, some not so convincing wins and some pretty poor losses. If you look at the matches we lost, they were the ones we could have won easily. But, you could say the luck factor was not there with us.

Your decision to drop Ganguly for the last game and that too in front of his home crowd.

Dips : There is no room for sympathy in sport. No one is guaranteed a place. Ganguly was not in the best of form and we desperately wanted to end on the winning note. Malik felt uneasy here and Yusuf in Hyderabad. Both me and sam consulted each other as well as the respective players and decided to go ahead with the move. Tiwary did really well.

On this whole concept.

Dips : It's a tremendous concept. The tournament was a huge success and credit goes to JP. He did a terrific job and the players too lived up to their expectations and performed considerably win.

    Author: NZ_Fast
Subject: 4846
Posted: 02 May 2009 at 1:21pm

I'll start by asking, how pleased are you with this season?
Well, to be honest I'm not over the moon about it. We lost a couple of games we should have won and other we lost when the pressure came on. We could have done a lot better. All in all though we won over half the games we played, which is comparable to most teams.

The last game though. You've got to be happy with that?
Oh yes. I have to admit I thought "here we go again, gunna throw it all away", but I'm proud of the boys, Ryan in particular who stuck his hand up and stopped the game slipping away.

Speaking of Ryan, he had a fantastic season didn't he?
Haha, yea he didn't do to badly did he. The plan was to have Ryan as back up to Jacob Oram, but obviously bidding didn't go our way and so he became the premier all rounder. Privately, he's dissapointed with his bowling efforts, but his batting has been exceptional and made up for that.

Do you think the batsmen let you down?
Erm, well firstly, they've done a great job really haven't they. 2nd highest batting bonus points, though a lack of consistancy has damaged the teams chances. Often it was a glut of runs all at once by the batsmen, rather than playing well for several games at a time which showed by sometimes pileing up huge totals, in contrast to two innings defeats as well.

The bowlers, they did alright, anything to say about them?
Having Bondy was great, he was a great influence, just a shame he got injured in the end. Patel, well he was magnificent really too. Ntini, well he himself has admitted he underperformed a little with the ball, but he still managed 50+ wickets which is awesome. It wasn't our seamers that were worrying though. Our spinners left us down. Monty was awful early on and so was replaced by Harris who had a couple of good games and then lost his form. Chawla didn't get much of a chance but failed to impress. Monty though to his credit started to get into the groove of things in the last few games. Ryan, well as I mentioned earlier really just did all that you can expect of an allrounder. Maharoof, well he surprised the last game, having shaken off the dust the previous game. He bowled really well and its sad he didn't really get any opportunities earlier.

Dhoni, will you be looking to retain his services?
That's a tough one. He is such a world class performer, and he said he felt good, but he just couldn't do anything right with the bat, and Prior did a great job. We tried him at the top of the order and that didn't work either. We'll take a wait and see approach with Dhoni I think....he might not want to come back.

Is there anything else you wish to add?
I'd like to mention a few guys, just to give them some recognition. Firstly Phil at the top of the order. He was our top run scorer and did a greeat job opening which is never easy. Bondy, one of the comp's top wicket takers says it all really. Munaf, again one of the top wicket takers, 3rd if I'm not mistaken. Princey and Ryan, both did great jobs in the middle order there, much success revolved around them. And I should mention Punter. Although he was a little bit quieter with the bat than both him and I would have hoped, he played some great innings in crucial moments and was a great team man.

Big thanks to JP for running the sim. I think everyone enjoyed it and look forward to the next season, whenever that may be.

...... a round (or a slightly square round) of applause (how cheesy eh?)
