Go the whole hog - get a suit of armour Tongue
When you win the toss - bat.
If you are in doubt, think about it - then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague - then bat.

I have heard good things about them, wouldn't get me wearing them though. If the ball is higher then my pads I back myself to hit it with the bat not my leg.

Well if the ball is shin high on the stumps, I back myself to hit it straight back past the bowler too, but I'm still going to wear pads. Not really the point.

Well you use your pads for legitimate uses, you dont bat-thighpad it away in defence. Not to mention the fact getting hit there doesnt really hurt all that much.

theres a comp for them here, why dont you enter?

There is a pad thread already, you shouldnt be making separate threads for a single question, thats why god made threads.

Actually there isn't, the strippers are a sort of "thigh guard built into shorts" style thing, they are apparantly very light and comfortable. If I was going to wear any thigh guard style thing they would be what i'd get, I'd just be worried about lack of ability to move properly.

I've used mine for a couple of seasons and I think they are pretty good.  The shape of them is such that they don't impede my batting or running.

The feedback that I have seen online from others seems to have been pretty positive.  The Sri Lankan team was in NZ recently and judging by the shapes under their trousers they were pretty much all wearing them (and before you ask, the shape I am referring to the is the distinctive hip guard which is pretty obvious once you know what to look for).

I believe the whole design philosophy is based around being able to move freely when wearing them.

jbel, does the hip protector get in the way at all?

Presumably that bit is above the waistline of the trousers and is covered by the shirt whereas the rest of the strippers are under the trousers?

I remember watching a 12 or 13 year old playing for South Hants last season, clearly padded to the nines from head to toe.  He dived to make a run and was prostrate for a few minutes, the coach came off from attending to him with tears of laughter in his eyes ....... "wasn't hurt at all, just had so much clobber on he couldn't get up"

The hip guard is good for me although I do know some people who have removed it.  If you get them fiting you properly the hip guard doesn't get in the way at all.  I have to tuck my shirt in over the top of the pad because the pad comes above the waist band of my trousers.

I just borrowed a pair from a mate and tried them for a net session, very comfortable, though it was a bit of an odd feeling to start with but soon got used to it. Seriously looking at getting some for myself.

Sorry to drag up an old topic as my first post but;
I bought a pair of these to replace my padmans, and they have been fantastic. Having used them over the winter, the past 3-4 months, I cannot reccomend them enough.
Great protection, Very lightweight.

Also, regarding the hip protector, I have removed mine as i don't like it and how it feels, but it doesn't fit me amazingly well which is the reason I have removed it as mine are slightly too big for me in sections.

But, they're well worth it.

I recently picked up a pair of these - a store was selling the P1's still carrying the Obo brand for £25 which was too good to refuse. (I also bagged some pads too which I'll mention somewhere else no doubt).I haven't used them in play yet but love the front thigh protection, which is a mammoth improvement on the traditional thigh pad style in terms of fit and comfort.

I've never had any back leg thigh protection before so that is taking a bit of getting used to - I can always remove it if I end up hating it. The hip pad  doesn't discomfort me at all though so it will probably survive.

I also like the very thick waistband which supports the lower back so is handy for us old folks.

Now there's a reason to upgrade from P2s to P1s - lumbar support.  I must try that on my wife when I sort out my kit for next season.  LOL

I brought a pair some 3 weeks ago and have 2 net sessions thus far. they are very comfortable and solid. One of my team mates bowls extremely quickly. he love bowling just on a length darting into your hips. i was struck 4 time today, and must admit it was painless. They do look a little stupid when wearing outside your trousers but they they are awesome.
