Afghanistan are to play three one-day games against a Pakistan 'A' team later this month and become the first international team to tour the country following the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team covoy in Lahore in March 2009.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have confirmed that the three 50-over matches will be played in Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and Abbottabad on 25th, 27th and 29th May.

At this point, I'd just like to share with you what I wrote in April 2009 in an editorial for the magazine:

"Congratulations are also due to Afghanistan, who have earned themselves ODI status for the next 4 years, and they confirmed that on the same day that the ICC made the only decision they could have done, taking 2011 World Cup matches out of Pakistan. Given that there are no international grounds in Afghanistan, maybe, just maybe, they will become the first team to play in Pakistan since the tragedy."

It has been noted that I should put my money where my mouth is!

I would love to see the Afghan team win. And they do have a strong chance as wlel. Good luck. I will be travelling to see one of the game at least, probably the Abbottabad one.

Battle of the neighbours!  Can this be another tense rivalry like that of India and Pakistan?  Time will tell.  I'm happy for the Afghan boys though!
In troubled times, being philosophical helps a great deal, it helps you to remain sane and not do any further damage.
