    Posted: 17 February 2006 at 1:27pm
Afridi in Tests compares with the best

After thir first 23 tests (since Afridi has played only 23 tests to this date, we are comparing his performance with the first 23 tests of few top batsmen).

Player        Mat   I     NO  Runs  HS     Ave 100  50

Afridi            23  42  1  1620 156       39.51   5   8

Ponting        23  37  2  1335 127         38.14   3   7
Gillchrist       23  32  4  1472 152        52.57   4   9
Hayden        23  39  2  1559 203        42.13   4   6
Clarke          20  31  2  1072 151          36.96   2   4

Tendulkar     23  35  3  1382 165        43.18     6
Dravid          23  37  3  1805 148       53.08   2  15

Lara            23  38  0  2180 375       57.36   4  12

Looking at the stats, here are the facts

Total Test Runs: Only Dravid & Lara scored more than Afridi in their first 21 tests, Afridi is ahead of Ponting, Gilchrist, Hayden, Clarke and Tendulkar.

Average: Afridi is clearly ahead of Ponting & Michael Clarke in test average after first 23 tests.

Hundreds: Against Afridi's 5 test 100s, only Sachin matches the record with Ponting, Gilchrist, Hayden, Clarke, Lara and Dravid behind them.

Fifties: Similarly Afridi is ahead of the rest in no. of 50s except Lara, Dravid & Gilchrist.

Need I say more about the most under rated batsman in modern test history....... the record speaks for itself.

The most amazing thing about this record is that it DOES NOT include any matches against Bangladesh or Zimbabwe

The numbers mean little , Bangladesh and Zimbabwe tests cause massive distortion to test averages nowadays and that must be taken into account.

Afridi is a good cricketer , but he isn't comparable to the best batsmen in the world.

when he opens up he does it for a reason...to get pakistan into a good firm position, he's got the quickest ODI 100 to date. He hits 6s for fun and has got a quicker ball which pushes 80 mph barrier.

What is the point ur trying to make anil?

Just dont get jealous and dont talk rubbish!

Afridi is waaaaaay better than Dhoni, considering him opening and coming in the final death overs. Whereas dhoni gets more time to get off the mark and then he plays the way Afridi does! Afridi doesn't take his time getting used to the conditions, thats exactly whats unique about him!

if you remember afridi ripping into the england team, i wouldn't call that fluke, hitting the ball on the up for 6 pretty consistently! luck is usually seldom, so tha fact that he does it consistently surely means it cant be luck!

so Anil...you are the only one to call Afridi a fluke so in my eyes that draws one obvious conclusion- Afridi is no fluke! Like Canadian Rocket said, Shahid Afridi is unique!

Anil i would hate it if you were in charge of my side as you're clueless. DO you know the social consequences? Afridi drawns in crowds of thousands...he is exciting too watch and many people who aren't interested watch him for entertainment value! Just stop hating Afridi...it is all about jealousy and it is obvious

yeah to be honest i dont hink thousands of people would go to see him, and then leave as soon as he gets out if he wasn't amazin, you dont even see that kind of attitude towards gilly, symonds, kemp, pieterson, flintoff, lara, or tendulkar
