ok, a better comment, but he doesn't slog all that much, look at his shots and how he finishes them, for example when he hit sixes over midwicket to a ball on the up, the bat didn't go past his shoulders - he controls his shots very well

Afridi is a great batsman when he is in form like now but when he is out of form ( like the 2003 world cup), in all honesty, he is not the most exciting player to watch

Well i think no one is exciting to watch if he is out of form. But in case of Afridi he still draws crowd.

Exactely he cannot even bowl a wrong un, but that would be point, less because he can't turn it off the straight from leg to off. Can't bowl, Can't bat, technically the most incorrect of all batsmen and leg spinners. He is crap and a fluke, a few good hundreds on extremely flat traks and ordinary bowling has pushed his average up. He has played ovre 200 odis, he should average 30 at least.

Player        Mat   I     NO  Runs  HS     Ave 100  50

Afridi            23  42  1  1620 156       39.51   5   8

Ponting        23  37  2  1335 127         38.14   3   7
Gillchrist       23  32  4  1472 152        52.57   4   9
Hayden        23  39  2  1559 203        42.13   4   6
Clarke          20  31  2  1072 151          36.96   2   4

Tendulkar     23  35  3  1382 165        43.18     6
Dravid          23  37  3  1805 148       53.08   2  15

Lara            23  38  0  2180 375       57.36   4  12

Looking at the stats, here are the facts

Total Test Runs: Only Dravid & Lara scored more than Afridi in their first 21 tests, Afridi is ahead of Ponting, Gilchrist, Hayden, Clarke and Tendulkar.

Average: Afridi is clearly ahead of Ponting & Michael Clarke in test average after first 23 tests.

Hundreds: Against Afridi's 5 test 100s, only Sachin matches the record with Ponting, Gilchrist, Hayden, Clarke, Lara and Dravid behind them.

Fifties: Similarly Afridi is ahead of the rest in no. of 50s except Lara, Dravid & Gilchrist.

Need I say more about the most under rated batsman in modern test history....... the record speaks for itself.
Miniwarne, just open your eyes a bit, his test stats for 23 tests he has played are even better than ponting , of which not a single one against Bang or Zim, which opens all avenues for that guy, and it also says one thing that he has a good enough technique to score 8 fifties and 5 centures both more than your beloved ponting. I never thought his test stats would be so good.

You are incorrect, Shahid Afridi has been on the international scene for 10 yrs and has taken way too long to adjust, Gilly, Sachin, Ricky, Lara, Clarke all were in their 1st couple of yrs.

He has been used in ODI,s just the way sehwag was initially used, but as ausies have changed test matches , each team is getting players with good strike rates in, whatever is the case afridi has adjusted well , He had 2 centuries in the recent series, and has a long career ahead, the talent he has is immense and he has shown that he can adjust to test matches well!

Guys

No need to answer Anil Kumble anymore because

- He is too narrow minded or short sighted
- He doesnot understand how to read cricket stats
- His comments are as rubbish as Anil Kumble' bowling
- He deserves exactly what Afrid does to the bowler Kumble, smack 4,4,4,4,4,0   in an over.......
- Anil Kumble once said that he fears only one batsman in the world - Shahid Afridi

& he is so embarrased because Afridi has scored 300 more runs and two more 50s than Tendulkar - the so called prodigy - in his first 23 test.

Another slap on Mini Warney's face !!!

I knew that Aussies would bring this argument so i have the stats on this as well....

ODI debut    Test Debut     Time bfr 1st test ODIs bfr 1st test

Afridi       16y 215 d    18y 235d     2 yrs 20 days        66

Gilchrist   24y 346d    27y 356d    3 yrs 10 days         76

If the above stats are not enough to bring you back to reality, here is a bit more for your peace of mind....

Glichrist was not only 8 years older than Afridi in ODI debut, he was 9 years older than him before playing his first test.

Yeah, Afridi's TEST debut was delayed b/c he was wrongly labelled as an ODI only player.

His debut was vs Australia and then he went on to play in India and won the Test series for Pakistan and has never looked back since then..

Afridi's test stats look pretty good right now. I hope he can bring his average up to 60 and score 10000+ runs. That's a big ask.

Well, if he gets a consistant run in the test arena, he will end up right up there, may be not 10,000 runs as he has just played 23 matches since his Test debut in 98-99 but with something respectable like 7000-8000 runs.

The reality is that few people are really biased and they keep on blowing their trumpet, suddenly majestic khan comes up with a few stats and their baloons are burst, at times I think one should recheck these records, they have been too good to be true, Actually stats dont lie but fans do.

To add to majestic comments about afridi its not only that he should get aconsistent run in test cricket but should get atleast three or four test yearly against india in india because he is an expert on hitting Indians in India and taht boosts his averages a lot!
