Ajinkya Rahane has been among the runs since his debut this season. It could be a little early to comment on him but he looks like a good future prospect. What do guys think? He could be a good number 3 for India once Dravid retires. If he can maintain his average then he could be very well replace Dravid in a couple of season's time. He also has a handy strike rate which is definitely not of a slogger. I would like him to be in the test team before the one dayer team. Many players have found their place in the oneday team yet when they have only proved themselves only in longer version.

What is his age? He has played just 19 innings. So probably a bit early to judge through stats. Against which opposition has he played so far?

he played the Challenger Series for the NKP Salve Trophy and I remember Praveen Kumar castling him in the first over in a very embarrassing manner. He's still got time in his hands.

He is playing well in the match today too in Duleep Trophy final. Looking good for another century. The bowling opposition is not bad at all.

He also made a big score against the England Lions.

I have seen that dismissal. but that was just a terrific delivery. Most of the time so early in the innings that delivery would be quite good.

It wont be easy for any player to fill Dravid's boots though. He has been there for 13 years and has been rock solid. I dont think we will find another Rahul Dravid who will be as technically sound as he is.

well I never said he will be Dravid. No one player is like another. I just said that he can be a good replacement. Doesn't need to be the most technically correct to be the best number3. look at ponting, he has not the perfect technically perfect batsman but that doesnt matter.

I've been following him for a bit, do you know why he's not on the U-19 squad for the World Cup?

I think he was selected in the duleep trophy so wouldn't be able to go to the world cup or he might be just over the age limit.

His stats updated. So far he is going good and doing nothing wrong to get a call up for international cricket. If he continues like that for a season, he will get his chance.

I can't get carried away by a few statistics lad. My question is a simple one - just how good is the bowling and how flat are the tracks ?

He's not saying that Rahane is the second coming of Tendulkar, just that he's a very talented prospect who may turn out to be something.

Sledge has a point but I have to say this, flat pitch or not, it takes something to score those kinda runs. India just have to hope he's not a first class bully like Ganga, Ramprakash etc.

oops i forgot to answer. Well I can't comment how good the pitches for all the matches but some scores like that 172 was against England Lions which was a good team and the pitch was okay as well. I don't know how weak Maharashtra are but that's the side whom against he scored his highest one day score till now. If it was a decent squad then the pitch definitely couldn't be that flat as the other team were rolled over for 180 odd against a very good Mumbai side.

Thanks for that CC . The lad will have to be patient as the guys in possession aren't making any noises about retirement from test cricket as far as I know. He could do worse than go to England and experience seaming and bouncier tracks than he plays on at home - it can only make him a better player.
