Someday i'll post a pic of my Ihsan Inferno 450 - just 6 grains but made from very good willow and came pre knocked in.  So far, it has been a superb bat, I knocked it in pretty well.  For the areas i've knocked in, even fast bowlers deliveries can't put on any indentation on the bat (just the normal little dent but the willow is very resilient as it should be.

Clobber, i've noticed when my bat is in the case that surface crack appears (I only do that when travelling with it) but they disappear after a couple days after its taken back out.  It is best to leave them in the open air in your room right, instead of in the case?

Hi guys,

Just ordered a Laver & Wood Special Reserve. It should be ready in 3-4 weeks time (based on what Andy says) and should reach me in another 1-2 weeks time after that. This will be my first experience with LW and hopefully its an unforgettable one. Will post again once i received the bat. Thanks all for the help.Wink

I'm still wating for the reply from warsop regarding my bat and it's been almost a week. Mayb they're busy. They were cooperative previously. Laver & Wood is more cooperative and friendly. I might go for them if Warsop is taking longer than expected to reply my email.

How about Hell4Leather and SAF bats? Has anyone tried them? I read quite a good review on SAF.

Based on what it says here at www.cricketbatwillow.com, the more colour there are on the willow, the lower the grade is. No. of grains is a more likely of an indicator for the bat strength as the lesser the no is, the stronger the bat will be. You can read the rest of the explanation on the site. This is from what i've read. i could be wrong. Thank you.

there are far too many factors to say definitively which is better, but Warsop do make very good bats so you should have no fears over their quality

If it is pre-prepared, I would just have a gentle net with it, against bowlers using older bowls, and not play any big shots. If the bat face dents up during that, give it maybe an hour with a mallet, then try again.

If there is no significant denting, repeat a couple of times, introducing a few more lusty blows and see how it gets on.

25 matches is a decent amount of matches and I don't think you'll get the bat fixed.  The toe is very easy to damage, a very quality bat can go with just one searing yorker.

And by the way, a crack in the toe is no biggie, seeing you should be hitting out of the middle.  Tape up the toe or glue it up.  If the crack is big enough to affect the middle then you've got a problem.

Hi Folks

New member saying hi, been a short time follower of threads as a guest but hoping to use your cricketing minds with a problem I have.

After only starting to play cricket 3 years ago after thinking it was a "girls sport"  for years (soon relised it's the opposite!!) I decided to get myself a good quality bat to make me look more like a cricket player.  I purchased with my friend a Newbery Samrai and a Newbery Uzi after getting a lot of good reports about them,  I bought them on the 14th April 2009 but after not playing a lot of one day cricket and spending my time playing 20/20 midweek stuff around 25 games in total I have just spotted a crack in the back of the toe of my bat after showing it to some friends they said that should not happen and I should write to newbery to see if they would repair the bat.

I take good care of the bat and followed alot of the guides on cricket bat care but this does not seem to have helped.

Just wondering if anyone has advise on what I should do or should I just fix the bat myself??

Thanks in advance.

Callum

Ok, thanks sir.  There would be no round and directing knocking off the toe for me, it has on a toe guard.  I'll knock the edges from the face first, when I feel that's enough, then i'll round them off.  Seems a pretty good bat so far, only one surface crack has been left so far and it's one you can't make out without really looking closely and feeling.

knock the edges at 45 degrees to round them off - or simulate the ball coming off the edge with your mallet. On the toe I tend to round off the edge in a similar manner then make sure it gets plenty of mallet time on the bottom inch of the blade. Don't knock the edges or toe directly.

Batman Clobber, a few questions.

When knocking in the edges of a bat, is it wise to round the edges or you just knock on the face at the edges?

Also, should I knock in the toe?  By that I mean the lowest part of the bat face and not necessarily under the bottom of the bat, if you know what I mean.

Also, tested out my brand new willow yesterday.  Throwed a ball in the air and gave it a little biff, it flew a lot of yards.  So, I came to the conclusion that it's not Chris Gayle with his brutal strength, it's that Ihsan bat of his. Big%20smile

Talking about bats, I got one on a few days ago out of Pakistan, Ihsan brand.  It has a very thick edge and fat meat.  The best thing is, the bat is extremely light so I can still put a hammering on the faster guys if they want to bowl short.  Got about 7 grains, haven't even knocked it in yet but it 'looks' as if it will play well.

It's a shame Tom/Tevans doesn't post here any more, he could have given you loads of info. You will probably find him over on the Cricket Supplies forum if you are so inclined.

I haven't got a clue about the geography unfortunately, so might be giving you names that are 1000's of miles away from where you are going to be, but aside from the Champ details I gave you in the PM, I am a fan of Matrrixx bats, and they will make them to order if you wish.

Hi everyone, first time on here so hope this post is in the right place.

I'm off to India on a holiday next week and I'm keen to get a few custom bats made up. Has anyone had any experience/dealings with bat manufacturers out there (especially Meerut region)?? Does anyone have any recommendations?

Many thanks!

Thanks jkaus. I took note of your advice, it helped when i finally went got a new bat today in the boxing day sales :D Ended up getting a grey nic powerbow at 2'7. I was leaning towards a nitro but there weren't any in stock and 30% off was too good to pass up! It's got a nice slight bow to th blade and feels simply superb in the hands... great buy!
