how does that work! actually it will simply become more dense! and thinner! however the weight wil not change! (mass = density x volume) |

How come the Sword was taken out? I'm asking because I saw one at the store recently and I thought it was pretty good.

Has anyone used a Uzi? How does it feel with its long handle and short blade?

UKKiwi, A guy I open the batting uses an Uzi and he really rates it, he is not a big hitter either!! The bat is designed for 20/20 cricket to enable you to 'give it the long handle'! Really interested with your Fusion post on the other topic, I have got my eye on one of these as they look like an awesome bat - 34cm edges!!!! I am not surprised your mate in Aus reckons it pings!!! Shame about the price - one website in the bats description has the quote 'regrettfully the first bat to break the $au600 mark!' Edited by willhello |

oh stop bragging Red, i am very very jealous :) Willhello, cheers for that, so your mate thinks the balance of it is perfect? despite the 'odd' combination of the handle and blade length? |

Mass = Density X Volume So if Density is greater with volume remaining the same, mass would increase. This is how it works. Edited by shan |

UK Kiwi, REf: UZi I had a go with it at nets last night, and the balance is ok, I found it a little strange on where to gauge your hand position due to the long handle however it felt ok and went well off the middle - as you would expect for a Newbury. It is not the Top model either yet the wood quality is very good with arond ten grains and a slight mount of red wood on the inside edge. The one thing I did notice when I tried holding it long handle was the 'whip' factor when trying to hit over the top - there is definititely some extra flex when trying to hit somone long and straight - the best comparison is like using a driver in golf!!! Also - great point ref the fusion about the lighter handle making the bat pick up heavier - I am with you on that as surely the bat will be bottom heavy which makes for a hevy pick up. Although I have to say I am still very tempted by one as I am currently without willow due to a split. www.sportequip.com.au has all the new Southern Hemispheren bats on, it also has a custom made GN on there made bats by GN Master Batmaker - Stuart Kranzbuhler |

The volume won't stay the same, because if you press the bat, the volume would decrease.
This is to Phoenix, it doesnt matter how much the bat has been pressed, you cannot make a bat heavier just by pressing it. It wont add any weight onto the bat! |

no unfortunately this is not how it works! if you press the bat the volume will reduce, and the density will increase, here is an e.g. take a peice of bread, if you squash it into a ball shape, and make it as small as possible, then do you think the mass will be greater? somehow i dont think so! |

Willhello mate, Well, the GN fusion does look a beaut, however I think people are really paying for its high tech handle. Time will tell, and I reckon cricket is such a monkey see monkey do industry, before you know it everyone will have the same/similar things anyway.

Well what if you take a bigger loaf of bread? This is what they do when they need to make a harder bat, I guess. And dimensions of a bat are almost standard, this is what I know, and I could be wrong too. Thickness might be an exemption. Edited by shan |

And thats why although I dont own a newbery (ok I lied, I have a 3Lb6 Zeus as a netbat) I commend Newbery's innovations on handles and shapes. They certainly lead the way in some of their designs.

i could be wrong, isn't the knots or butterfly stain harder because it contains more moisture?

knots and butterfly stains are harder because they take longer time to grow and therefore denser than the normal wood.

if you want a really good bat for £80, then you will have to go on ebay. I got a newbury naravone 5 star for 50 something off ebay. The RRP is £115!!! I would suggest you go for GM purist original or 909. Buy it off ebay you will only have to pay less than £100. |

Does anyone know a lot about Choice Willow cricket bats (based in Herts)? A friend of mine has just got a custom made Choice Willow bat which looks and feels very nice - what are people's thoughts on these and I'm currently looking for a new bat myself? thanks |
