Interesting to list the all time Best XI of your state/county. Probably some of the Australian state teams would be very strong. My state team is Karnataka. The alltime best is not a very balanced side since we haven't produced good batsmen for no. 1,2 and 5 spots. Still, Karnataka has produced two of India's great batsmen who generaly played during crisis. And the bowling attack is probably the strongest in India.
Batting:
Sadanand Vishwanath
Roger Binny Rahul Dravid G R Vishwanath (C) Vijay Bharadwaj Sunil Joshi Syed Kirmani (WK) Javagal Srinath Anil kumble (VC) E Prasanna B Chandrashekar 12th Man - Venkatesh Prasad
Bowling:
Javagal Srinath
Roger Binny
E Prasanna
B Chandrashekar
S Joshi
A Kumble

Interesting thread kiran!!
Unfortunately my state happens to be Sindh and we haven't produced enough good bowlers. This team is going to be very weak.
Saeed Anwar
Hanif Mohammad
Javed Miandad
Zaheer Abbas
Younus Khan
Asim Kamal
Wasim Bari (Wk)
Mohammad Sami
Danesh Kaneria
Tauseef Ahmed
Pity that I cant think of an eleventh player in an already weak bowling side!!!

Great thread but I realy don't remember too many great bengal players of the past. I'd go for this one. My knowledge is limited though!
Devang Gandhi Arun Lal Sourav Ganguly Rohan Gavaskar Laxmi Ratan Shukla Ashok Malhotra Deep Dasgupta (wk) Utpal Chatterjee Sourashish Lahiri Ranadeb Bose Shib Shankar Paul 12th : Manoj Tiwary Others : Ashok Dinda, Abishek Jhunjhunwala (ICL) and Shib Sagar Singh (ICL), Subhomoy Das. I think there are other players too. |

Sadly, Kilwinning in Scotland isn't really noted as a hotbed for producing cricket talent, so I better go for a Leicestershire XI since I live there;
Nigel Briers Ben Smith David Gower James Whittaker Peter Willey Roger Tolchard Paul Nixon Chris Lewis Phil De Freitas Stuart Broad Raymond Illingworth Alan Mullally (or Jack Birkenshaw depending on conditions) Not that great really, but a decent bowling attack, plus batting depth if not much real quality. That's leaving out people from before my time like George Geary, Charles Palmer and Tony Lock. Of course if I could have overseas pros and Kolpaks it would be a different matter altogether with Sehwag, Hodge, Bevan, Afridi, Srinath, Ackerman and more coming into contention. |

Are you SERIOUS!!!!!?? Half these players aren't even test class and you put them in.... surely Paul Reiffel and Damien Fleming were better than Thompson and Nannes. McGain over Shane Warne? Wade over Darren Berry? Cameron White over Brad Hodge? What about Ponsford, Hassett, Warwick Armstrong, Matthew Elliot, Merv Hughes, Ian Redpath, Tony Dodemaide? I'll have a go:
=======
That might be an average bowling attack but what a batting line up!! Edited by milkman - 14 March 2009 at 3:13am |

Yes there is real quality in the batting line. Probably the best in the thread so far. However, If I pick a Punjab State eleven, it will have the strongest bowling attack ever inPakistan atleast. I have lived in LAhore as well so I think I can pick a team from here too ;) Aamir Sohail
Salman Butt
Inzi
Yousuf
Salim Malik
Imran Khan
Razzaq
Wasim
S. Yousuf (WK)
Waqar
Shoaib Akhtar
12th man: Shoaib Malik / Abdul Qadir
Interesting there are 8players in the playing eleven wo have led the national team. Include the 12th Man, and we have 9 of them!!! Edited by zuhair_abbasi - 14 March 2009 at 5:42am |

Yes. Sindh team probably has the best batting line up in the listed teams so far. And Leicestershire XI has one of my all time favorite players - David Gower. What a player he was to watch. Simply magnificient.

That's as good as a fast bowling attack you could ever get. Waqar, Wasim, Akhtar, Imran and Razzaq. My only criticism is that you probably could have thrown Qadir in, he is one of the best wrist spinners Pakistan has ever produced, if not the best. It would give more balance to the side, and there are heaps of quicks there anyhow. Shoaib Malik is way overrated, the guys in that side far beat him in natural talent and match winning ability. Formidable batting line up, Salman Butt probably a bit out of his league with this group of players but then again he is a specialist opener. Since Imran Khan is there Abdul Razzaq the other all rounder could probably miss out in favour of Qadir. I don't know, I think I'm a bit like Richie Benaud in thinking that all sides should play a spinner. Not sure if S. Yousuf can bat or not so that could be the reason why you put Razzaq in instead. it'll be very difficult for me to put down 11 players from my city, i don't even know many of them... still just to keep some pride i'll list some of the internationals who have played from my city:
M Azharuddin
VVS Laxman
V Raju
Venugopal Rao
Pragyan Ojha
i believe there must be a few more who have played for india, but i really don't know them.
There was another guy called kanwaljeet singh who took loads and loads of wickets at domestic level but never played for India. Edited by sam_ahmed - 14 March 2009 at 7:28am |

S. Yousuf was pretty average with the bat. Much like the olden days keepers.brilliant with the gloves though. I do think Qadir has a place in the team ahead of Razzaq if we are playing in sub continent. But playing elsewhere you need to bat deep down and have more seamers, probably these two could be rotated. Malik can come in if any one of hte batters get injured. I dont think Malik is way overrated though. He is better than both Butt and Aamir. They got in because they are specialist openers. Otherwise Malik is a finisher and quite a talented player for my likings

I still reckon Aamir was better than Malik is now, at least with the bat but that's just my two cents and I respect your view. I don't really think you need a huge batting line up since you have such great players in your side and the depth in the bowling is tremendous. I'd go for balance rather than batting depth and put Qadir in all the time. 5 quicks and no spinner is a bit odd I must say. |

It is difficult to form a quality side from Hyderabad side Sam. Among the Indian states, it would be possible only with Mumbai, Karnataka and Delhi I think. But you have forgotten some decent players like M L Jaisimha, Shivlal Yadav etc., |

Aamir and Salim can turn their arms a bit too. I agree though, having Qadir in the team will add a new dimension. Let me clear myslef that I am no Qadir fan and he was a bit overrated. He probably kept the art of leg spin bowling alive in those times which is why he gets over credited.
Wasn't abid Ali from Hyderabad folks?

Yup! I have forgotten a few names there, but I can't be blamed either, off late HYD has been very ordinary at domestic level and we hardly come to know about our local players.

How can you possibly have a team from Antigua without IVA Richards, irrespective of whether you saw him play yourself or not?

Was serious, just was in a hurry because of my chores.
Hmm,Reiffel and Fleming. Reiffel just slipped my mind at that time and for some reason I kept on thinking that Fleming came from NSW!!! I'm stupid!!
I was noting Warne to go down in the XI when I was doing the openers,I then went and forgot about him. I said that Wade was the only keeper I could remember!!! I personally think that White deserves his place! Apart from that,I'm absolutly ashamed that I didn't wait until later on when I wasn't in a hurry. I'll refrain from cursing my stupidity and leave the building! Edited by bladescape - 16 March 2009 at 4:14am |

Here's a Western Cape XI -
1. Eddie Barlow (capt) 2. Gary Kirsten 3. Peter Kirsten 4. Kenny McKwen 5. Allan Lamb 6. Jaques Kallis 7. Adrian Kuiper 8. Richie Ryall (w/k) 9. Stephen Jeffries 10.Garth le Roux 11. Denys Hobson No Desmond Haynes or Graham Gooch as they're overseas players. No Graeme Smith as he's from Joburg originally. Good side that - how many of you know of Denys Hobson? Fine leggie that never played a test match - unlucky to be around during the dark days of isolation. Edited by Sledger - 17 March 2009 at 4:52am |

I assume you have not put your players in the batting order. Cant think of Kallis at 6. Dont know much about Kenny, but certainly Kallis is way superior to Lamb
