Anyone else played it? I just got it and am considering taking it back.
Its stupid, no matter where i bowl they just smash it. The test matches are not played like tests, it more like a T20 the entire game |

I'll be trying it out in a few days on my pc, if it's crap, then i'll uninstall it, simple as that.

I played it on PS3. It was decent, the graphics are overall very good, but lacks detail with regard to player faces. The stadiums aren't overly accurate and the bowling actions are generic, unlike in RC 2007. The commentary is the same as Shane Warne Cricket 99 with the addition of a few other commentators, but is poor as usual with cricket games. The gameplay is quite easy, batting is fairly straightforward and bowling is quite boring. It's the kind of game you need to play with a few mates and have a bit of competition against. I bought it on PC for AU$20 (but played it on PS3), was going to get it on Wii to play with the young ones , but decided I'd just get a cheap PC one to kill time with when I'm bored with reading cases.

So which would you rate higher Milky, that, Cricket 07 or BL/RP 07?

Yer I played both, owned EA SPORTS Cricket 2007. EA has much better graphics, much better. But the game play was poor. Batting was too hard when playing with a batsman early in his innings and the bowling was very bland and most people autoplay it. Commentary is also poor and there's no licensing for some teams. However , it had more teams, more stadia, more tournaments, more patches available as well to improve the game.
Codemasters RC/BC 2007 has easier batting, but it's quite fun and if you put it on hard then batting is really good, the shots are more fluent. I like how they've done the batting on the Ashes 09 game as well... a lot of shots and options (front foot, back foot, charge, lofted, attack, defend) and many directions to hit the ball - and in hard mode would be anice challenge. The bowling is also more imaginative in the RC/BC/Ashes games. |

So which one will win it for you, the RC/BC or the Ashes?
I hope I'm not disappointed when I install the Ashes in a few days.

RC/BC and Ashes are both made by Codemasters. Ashes is basically the new version of RC/BC. Codemasters makes a better game for pure entertainment, you shouldn't be too disappointed with Ashes... you'll get some hours out of it.

Ok, I hope so. Played Cricket 07 already, was disappointed with it really, bowling was very boring, when the track was seaming, the balls usually went for four pass the keeper.

Oh man, I've played it and I now realise why Zuhair said what he had to. When bowling, the team don't play test Cricket, they attack and attack in that format. I like the shot placings, it is better than EA Cricket but turn seems non-existant for spinners and they simply hit you wherever the ball is bowled and there are way too many run outs, I dismissed a team, 7 run outs being the main contributor.
I'm gonna go and do Brian lara 2007 and see how that goes because I was impressed by the 99 one.

It was pretty cool how Malinga and Harmison had their unique actions... but that wasn't the case for Murali.
I feel on the computer version that there are WAYYY too many buttons. Bowling is such a mess. |

Well, news is that a new game, Cricket Revolution will be released sometime in the middle of September so I'm hoping it's better than the previous games. I like the batting of Ashes 2009 (the variety of shot placings) but the game bats in T20 mode all the time. Too many run outs as well!

Too many run outs and too many fielding fumbles - it's ridiculous. And the 3rd umpire has no signal, the umpire on the field makes the signal which is weird. The ratings of the teams and players are also weird too, I never know how they rank that stuff. For instance , White is ranked higher as a bowler than a batsman which is nonsense.

Yeah, the fielding especially got me annoyed, I used India once and they dropped every aerial catch that came their way, and I got 7 run outs in one innings, it was unbelieveable. Maybe they're spending too much time working on making the game look to real in terms of graphics. I'm yet to try out the Lara 07 but I will soon when I finish downloading 3 stooges.

The thing is, I got the game on PC so there should be a patch coming out to fix those little bugs I hope. The graphics are okay, the faces are almost cartoony if anything though. Still, just too many buttons it's really annoying.

Haha, I hear you about too many buttons. I know the keyboard keys inside out, so that's no worry for me. Being able to type at 60+ WPM has it's advantages.
And I only play games on pc, I don't waste my time with any other kind of games. PC is a brilliant invention, I can do without cable tv now. Sports is me and my bro main thing to watch on tv and we get to see them all on the computer!

Yeh, I have a satellite dish which is good, but I still don't get a hell of a lot of cricket which is frustrating. PC tends to provide enough entertainment I guess. I know the keyboard inside out as well, but seriously they shouldn't overcomplicate the game. Pretty disappointing for mine. Why do you need to press Q and E to move the player then use W, A, S, D to direct the shot, then the arrow keys to hit the ball, then a different button for front foot/back foot/advance shots. Too many buttons. Bowling is even worse.

Yeah, I know what you mean, it's a challenge of speed of the brain if anything. All in all, I'm disappointed with it, not sure if Lara 07 is any better but surely, it can't be worse than Cricket 07 and this one.

It's shame. You'd have to play it multi player. Can you play it online? Perhaps we can verse each other Spinny.

The Ashes 09 you talking about playing online? If so, I'm sure we could try it out, but that's for when I get home as I surely can't have it on the computer at work. Time difference is another factor. If you're on around 2300-0300 GMT then we could easily have a go at it.

Yer well we're talking right now so it is possible to get the timing. But to be honest it's 1.30 am here in Melbourne and you're at work. Might be hard. On the weekend perhaps. I'm going to be very tired tomorrow staying up this late!

Ok. Might have to be a weekend indeed cause when I'm at home in the night on the computer, it's morning for you and I don't know if you work away from home or what. Just for the record, I'm 14 hours behind you at the moment.

Yer it will have to be the weekend because I have work or class in the mornings. It's a bit tedious isn't it. But it would be fun for sure to play online.

You've got to be kidding me fang, I've already uninstalled it from my pc - the guys were dropping too many catches and the game kept on hammering me into submission.
I'm now currently playing Cricket Revolution - the stroke play on the game is the best of the lot. Only two problems I find, the game when batting moves around the crease a lot and don't stand there and bat like reality and the pace of the guys isn't that quick to watch as say EA Cricket 2007 but other than that, I like it.

Ashes 09 is very disappointing. The more and more you play, the more you grow to dislike it. The ball doesn't spin, seam or swing. Batsmen hit you for six from ball one in tests, dropped catches, constant run outs, constant misfields, etc.

Yeah, the stroke play is quite good, just that the opposition moves around to the pitch when batting, but I do it back to he he.
