The first series after the WC has just got underway, Australia under a new captain in Michael Clarke clash against Bangla Boys.
Mashrafe Mortaza is back and has cleaned up Brad Haddin early on, AUS at the moment 150/4 in 32.1 overs. Important series this for both the teams, AUS next assignment will be in August against SLN so they would like to have a good start here before the break while for BAN it is time to shrug off that minnows tag and start performing big time.

Clarke showed glimpses of fine form in the World Cup and has started his first assignment as captain (i.e. not as a temporary skipper) with a fine ton. Ponting also looked in form, before a silly run out cost him his wicket - run a ball 34.
270 should be enough, 2 early wickets for the Aussies. No Krejza , Doherty instead and that's a fair selection.

For how long will BD continue to be a struggling side? This is really disturbing - they never tried to chase the total down - and they just seem happy enough to play out 50 overs. Their batting needs a real overhaul.

That was just pathetic, How can an international side give up the game when they have 6 wickets in hand and more than 20 overs in hand???? That is disgusting.
They did that against India in the WC, at that time I thought may be since this is the first game they do not want their NRR to suffer in case they go all out and lose so may be it is some kind of a long term strategy. They did that against PAK last year too and since that was anyhow a dead rubber I thought they just want to take it easy, but here first game of a bilateral series, 270 is not anything like impossible and you do this, well, this is as shameless an act as you would see in cricket.
If you don't think you can win then please don't play cricket, we will be much better off without such a team, and this is coming from a man who is a big fan of bangladeshi cricket team and loves the minnows so you can imagine how disappointed I am.

Ireland robbed of chance to grow. In my book Ireland is much better side than BAN on all pitches across the world. There is no lack of ability with BAN but they just don't perform, they simply haven't learnt the art of 50 over game or tests.
If there was 8 ODIs between these two (IRE vs BAN) teams on 8 different countires in the world, Ireland would easily win the series.
ICC did a blunder in shutting the door for them.Nothing less then Pathetic!
I just hope they somehow they win the next one by spinning out Aus (just want the India to be No 1 in ODIs too , coz it will help Go BD go...).

Thing is Malhotra Raj, Ireland's surge to the international level has been very recent. The first World Cup they qualified for was in 2007 and they only became an ICC member in 1993 due to political issues in Ireland/Northern Ireland. Bangladesh got the no.10 spot ahead of Kenya, by a whisker... some argued Kenya should be playing tests after the 2003 World Cup, but look at them now! Worst of the teams in the 2011 WC.
There was no room for Bangladesh when the world already had Zimbabwe losing nearly all of it's matches in test cricket anyway, and a solid 80% in ODI cricket.
You are also talking about ODIs... Ireland already has full ODI status. Certainly they should tour more, but again, the issue is that only 13 of its players have contracts and by my guess they are more likely to go play county cricket to support their family than go on ODI tours where no one is watching in the stadiums and their income remains poor.

I mean shutting the door to next world cup is like a dampner. Shut them out of next world cup and expect them to improve. I somehow didn't like that decesion.
The team they have got (players), even after 4 years they will be better than what ZIM and BD team on Aus-NZ pitches. That was my point.
Who knows , They might even knocked few Sub-Continent team on those pitches.
I feel they might play next world cup, maybe ICC changes it's stand or maybe Ireland start beating bigger teams in limited opportunity that they get and force ICC to think back. Then you never know what ZIM do(self ban from tests - stuff).
I think the ODI performance of ZIM,BD and IRE should be closely monitored before taking any decesion. I don't think ZIM/BD will put any fight in 2015 world cup.

It's very possible that BD and Zim will have to qualify for the WC in 2015. I know that the Champion's Trophy in 2009 only had the top 8 teams and that was an awesome tournament - because it had quality teams. You might find that there will be 10 teams in 2015, but BD and Zim will be competing for those 2 spots alongside Ireland, Holland, Afghanistan, etc.

I am very disappointed on Ireland's omission from WC 2015 but it should not come at the expense of BAN or ZIM, in all fairless both BAN and ZIM have beaten IRE on various occasions in bi lateral series and one off games. ZIM are on the right track and I can definitely see them progress significantly in the next 4 years, similarly BAN are much better than any of those associate nations or even ZIM, their problem is lack of self belief and their attitude is extremely poor, in 4 years time however, I see BAN in the top 6 ODI nations in the world, surely.
ICC should have looked at the option of 12 teams and 2 groups, at the moment the format is expected to be similar to that of 1992 where every team plays against the other once, it is the fairest possible format but it very harsh on associate nations like IRE and NET and also not to forget the extraordinary progress that AFG have shown over the last few years.
Some were talking about 2 groups of 5 teams each and then having a super 6 and then the SF's, that it meaningless because it kills the entire purpose of reducing the number of teams and making the format interesting, it also kills the main purpose of the ICC of making more money (which is why they excluded IRE and NET) because the more the number of games the more money the ICC will make, so that won't happen. it will be similar to 1992 format, fair enough but as I said earlier, very harsh on associate nations.

Yes ICC has floundered yet again with the move to deprive Ireland of some cricket. Sad that really. And Bangladesh's growth continues to move at a snail's pace, though I'm optimistic of their future, eventually they should start picking up the pace, but will the ICC be patient enough till then is the Big Q??

Holy Cow!! Somebody stop Watson he's gone completely berserk. Would've easily crossed 200 had Bangladesh scored a little more. New world record of most sixes (15 !!! ) in a match by any player. Absolutely ridiculous!! Stop it please...

Amazing!!! 15 sixes and 15 fours. Can you believe it?
185* off LESS than 100 balls. Would have made 300 had Australia batted first!
Stunning innings, pure carnage. He's been Australia's best player for about 2 years now, today he proved that this mini leadership roles (vice captaincy) has been great for him and his cricket. Super innings. Also got a wicket and took a beautiful catch at slip.

I don't want to go over the top, but Ponting is in some very, very decent touch too. He looks like he has found his bearing, could this be the beginning of his Tendulkar-esque resurgence... the one he keeps talking about?
With Clarke scoring a ton as well in the first innings and Hussey's good form, this could be the start of some good things to come for Australia, if all things click.
First things first though - I'd like to see Starc replace Johnson in the side as the left arm quick, even ahead of Bollinger.

Amazing stuff
No V4P, IPL is a different ball game. Most of the IPL teams have well balanced bowling outfits.
Watto will play some fine innings , but don't expect this kind of innings, most of IPL teams have good international or atleast decent local bowlers.
I don't want to comment on BD, I don't know where they are heading.

Shakib bowled respectably and the batsmen respect him. All the other bowlers are nothing of note... even Abdur Razzak who is the leading wicket taker in ODIs for BD is a blatant chucker and I shall never rate him highly.
Poor attack and Watson cashed in, just like he should.
Glimpses of that match where SA chased 440 against the Aussies , just berserk batting. Watson is an incredibly versatile batsman. In India last year he played an incredibly long and patient innings, in which he scored a ton - against a decent Indian attack in Indian conditions. And then you see him hit 30 boundaries in the space of 96 balls, just shows how flexible he is. Not to mention his bowling.. fielding.. leadership skills too?

Local bowlers? Decent? You hardly have them at the international stage mate - the local bowling unit is crap - unlike the batting

Actually Zuhair every team has atleast 2 international capped bolwers, batting team strategy is to get run a ball against international players and have a go at domestic players.
From coach's point of view it makes sense to have a go against lesser experienced domestic players,as they will be under pressure to perform and have their place. In earlier 3 IPLs even the international bowlers have been taken apart. So I don't blame them. T20 is all about batting, you cannot judge a bowler in this format of game unless they are bowling paradise.

Shane Watson, what a player!!!
A world record 15 sixes, ahd the target been 20-25 runs more Tendulkar's 200 would have been easily broken today!
Shane Watson ... hats off mate!

Watching Watson despatch the Bangladesh "attack" was surreal - he looked like he was having a net and a crazy net at that! As stated by most here , if the Aussies were batting first he'd have destroyed Sachin's record and in all likelihood South Africa's 438 as well. Moving him to the top of the order was an inspired move , I'd never really seen him as a biffer before that happened. Anybody any ideas of other lower order batsmen who might make a successful transition to opener ? I'd like to see Bopara given another go .

He makes 70 in no time, shame he didn't go on. Same with Ponting, who I think looks pretty decent as an opener, made a few runs whenever tried as skipper - looks an inspired move too. Much better than Haddin... I think Haddin's time might be coming to the end in this format at least.
Smith is also a wasted selection, more overrated cricketer in a long, long time. Stephen O'Keefe is a much better spin-bowling all-rounder. Nothing wrong with his left arm spin, a decent bat.
Great to see Ferguson in the line up too, he's a wonderful stroke maker and plays with limited risk, almost Bevan-esque in some regards.
I'd play a team that looks like this:
1. Watson
2. Ponting
3. Clarke (I'd play him at 3, give the guy a few more overs to get his eye in and the strokes start coming out nicely)
4. M. Hussey
5. D. Hussey (absent this tour due to birth of child)
6. Ferguson
7. Paine†
8. O'Keefe
9. Harris (when fit again)
10. Lee
11. Bollinger
5th bowler in this case would be Watson/David Hussey and Clarke. I suppose there would be justification in playing one less batsmen though and picking another quick or spinner. Johnson can go...

The Aussie complete their 3-0 clean sweep with yesterday's victory over Bangladesh. Nevertheless it was far from convincing, atleast as far as their bowling goes. In none of the three games could they manage to get close to ten wickets. Infact all they did manage was a meagre 18 Bangaleshi wickets @ 41 in the 3 games. All of a sudden their bowling doesn't look that puissant, does it. Though it ain't quite panic mode yet, they will have to reflect on a few things, esp the right bowling combo sans Brett Lee.
As for Bangladesh they just do not seem to know how to bat out those middle overs (atleast that was their predicament in yesterday's as far as the batting goes), Dint rotate the strike enough, milk the bowlers in the middle overs milk em. And their bowling is just really short of good.

I don't know Spin, It is a curious thing that when likes of ABD, Shewag, Yuvraj, G Smith, Gibbs, Afridi,Dilshan (barring one season), Jaysurya,Sanga,Mahela,Boucher,Gayle and Mcullum (barring few innings), Ponting and many more international names who never really set the stage on fire like what Pollard did in just one season.
Maybe that explains something.

I think if you look at the numbers you'll find it's either the retired internationals, international or test-class Indian bowlers taking the wickets. The young Indian players haven't done much with the ball. Certainly someone like Kumble has been marvellous, but he's an Indian test legend.

Statistics can mislead a lot Mikey, First of all in team of 11 players 4 are foreign nationals. Then you have atleast 4 (Indian regulars/Test/ODI retirees/or once upon a time / Fringe Indian national players). So that makes about 4+4 = 8. Hardly 3 spots are left .. how many time do they get opportunity to bat or bowl ?
IPL is not a joke, each team plays to win.The best batsman (obvioulsy internationals) will open. The international allrounders do the bulk of bowling aswell. So where is the real opportunity for domestic palyers.
Shikar Dhawan, played good knocks for Delhi in season 1, but hardly got opportunity when he moved to Mumbai in other seasons. There are lof of Indian domestic players who don't get enough opportunity to showcase their talent.
Just take the case of Valthaty, if he was not promoted up the order, would we witness such an innings ? B Chipli, hardly got a opportunity when he was in RCB. Now he is playing for DC , showed what he can be at 1 down position. So its all about opportunity
Unadkat,Trivedi,Gony,D Kulkarni,Sangwan are few medium pacers who got limited opportunity and did well.Gony did bowl really well in first edn, hardly got proper opportunity from 2nd edn onwards. There are some decent set of spinners too.
India has been moving in right direction since 2000, just because there have been lot of domestic talent to back it up whenever needed.
Now it is a different thing why people feel Indian domestic players have done nothing or they don't have any quality. How can a talent be judged in a domestic T20?
Anway I would not mind what peopole say about Indian domestic talent or IPL Circus, as long as India stays at top in tests and ODI (hope they get #1 soon) then bring ICC glory like recent WCs . I am fine!
