Sadly the game against Ireland looks like will be a washout, very sad indeed for cricket Ireland as they don't often get a chance to play against top teams, I wonder why they don't have some kind of reserve day for these games considering it rains so often in these places. Summer in Europe is pretty much like monsoon season in India!
Thankfully rains have come and it has been raining here these days! |

Sam, I highly doubt anywhere else in Europe have weather as terrible as England.
Its surely one place I won't ever chose to live. Long live the tropical caribbean sunshine.

Mystery, you gotta forgive me, growing up in bright sunshine and surrounded by green trees and beautiful waters, you'll know why most West Indians don't like the English weather. There are quite a few cricketers from here that goes up to England, and when they come back, they say they can only play cricket there, they can't live there, they don't like it. And those are guys who made plenty runs in the respective leagues they were playing in, so it had nothing to do with them having bad performances. Most of the guys prefer to go USA now instead and play.

So today's the first of the 5 match series and it's a sell out at Lords. Much talk of the young Aussie speedsters and England's 5 man test attack - it should make for a fine spectacle. A highly unlikely 5-0 win to the English would see them top of the standings in all forms of the game, but I think Cook and company would happily settle for another series win.
I think England will win it , but probably just by a single game. |

England in control of the first game as AUS struggling at 156/5, Clarke still there but surely Australia have better younger players than Bailey and Steve Smith, don't they? at the moment I think even Ricky would deserve a place in the side, they may not want to go back to him though, but surely they need to unearth better batting prospects, much like how they did with their fast bowling, fining Cummins and Pattinson.
For ENG it was good to see Eoin Morgan back in form, very fine knock from him.

Sam i think Smith is not that bad but the problem is he should bowl and Doherty should not be near this team he is average at best plus he is a no.11 so really you don't need someone like him in the team he really ruins the balance of this side the selection is just so wrong Hilfenhaus, Forest and Bailey are really useless i cant believe that selection community have so many good heads still they are making such mistakes by making someone like Forest who i really doubt would make WI lineup currently and Bailey is he not too bad but currently because of him the balance is killed.
My side that i really hope to see is - Watson Warner Quiney/Finch/Cooper Clarke Wade D.Hussey M.Marsh Smith/M.Johnson Lee Cummings Mckay Edited by mystery - 29 June 2012 at 8:17pm |

Not really Mystery, it actually gets cold in Pakistan, and temperatures goes high pass 40 degrees celcius. Caribbean temperatures are constant between 23 - 32 degrees. Even during a hurricane, you don't need any blanket to cover you in bed. ![]() |

but then that is the fun of the winter season spinny, I love to hide myself in my blanket, although it won't get as cold here as it does in pakistan or north india, the minimum we'd get in December-January will be around 10-12 deg. Celcius.Good side that mystery, I don't know much about the Aussie bench strength but some of the names you mentioned like Quiney, Finch, Cooper might be worth a go... Mitchell Marsh is also a very fine prospect and Shaun can also be in the reckoning.

great all-round play by the english boys.
a few years ago any team could of beaten england in their own background in odi matches but to beat England at home these days is a very very hard task. will be very interesting and maybe nice to see england whitewash aussie.

Two convincing wins by the English , with batsmen and bowlers impressing. This really is a pretty shabby Aussie side and if the weather holds 5-0 might not be out of the question. Bopara did himself no harm yesterday after a careful start and Morgan was terrific on Friday. Bell can't do anything wrong just now and Cook looks assured as captain. I'm still of the opinion that Prior should be behind the stumps even though Keitswetter was tidy in both matches. I like the 5 front line bowlers but it's offset with Bresnan batting high at 7. At some point the top order won't do the business and they might get rolled over cheaply , but the attack is capable of doing the same to any opposition.

Australian team almost looks like it does not want to be there. It's a pretty random tour and the boys would have been better off with R&R at home, especially after the Windies tour and the IPL. Not making any excuses though, the batting is a big problem for Australia in both ODIs and tests and an in-form Ponting is sorely missed from this side. Australia is definitely missing one or two x-factor batsmen, with no Mike Hussey or Ponting it's definitely showing. There are a couple of decent young batsmen coming through, hopefully next some they get tried out!
On the bowling, Cummins is being babied way too much, while Johnson was probably thrown in too early. Where the hell is Bollinger? |

The biggest problem i see is selectors how can any sensible guy pick Forest? when you already have got Michael Clarke and Bailey do you need a 3rd player like that to kill the team?? I'm sure each and everyone on this forum will agree with me that Forest is a below average player there are so much better average wise and talent wise players in Australia yet like Milky said it feels like Australian really dont care too much about the series what really disappoint me big time is the captain is the selector cant even he understand that they need a player like Symonds type not a Chanderpaul one plus really Doherty is totally useless i mean he cant bat, field and HE CANT EVEN Bowl properly if you want to just play a spinner because people say its needed than good luck as Doherty is really a waste of space everytime Australia play him its more like they are playing 10 players instead of 11 and Cummings should never be in Odi plan he should mainly play test matches when you have so many quality bowlers why do you need him id ODIS ?

Cummins is still very young and will be better off taking a good rest and coming back only when a 100% fit. Pattinson is being missed but I think he too is injured. What happened to Ryan Harris? He isn't a bad ODI bowler either. At the moment except for Brett Lee, no one is looking good.
Another professional display by ENG though, I admire the professionalism in this side, they have come a long long way this English side, from days when they could have lost from any point to a day when they are dominant right throughout, well done England.

Injury and Ryan Harris are joined at the (sore) hip Sam - excellent bowler , but rather brittle and probably being saved for tests.
It's an old whinge which is getting more sympathy now - too much cricket and the players are falling apart. It won't be too long before a fast bowler still playing at the ripe old age of 28 will be looked upon as some sort of freak. |

I agree with Mystery, Watson and Warner are explosive, but then no one in the middle order is and Wade will always be hit and miss. Clarke and Bailey are fine in the middle, but the 3rd middle order batsman needs to be a dasher - David Hussey isn't a bad option for that role, and an in-form White would have been another good option. Australia's success was always on the back of picking specialists and not bits and pieces players. How many all rounders are in this England line up? None really, the guys who can bat and bowl are specialists in one discipline (i.e. Bresnan and Swann are good enough as bowlers alone). Whereas Australia have gone into the habit of picking bits and pieces players like Steve Smith. England have taken up Australia's old strategies of picking 5 specialist batsmen, a good keeper who can bat, a spinner and 4 out and out pacers.

David Hussey, Mike Hussey is 2 valuable missing option for Aussies and Shaun March, not really sure why they're not there, maybe injury/rest.
Whats up with Hilfenhaus, Shaun Tait, Bollinger?? Anyone's a better pick than Mitchell Johnson. Sorry, but these days I don't follow cricket news, so won't really know who is injured. I only follow the games.

I saw both the matches and Australia looked far from convincing in both aspects, i.e. batting and bowling. The english players are full of confidence and with Bopara and Morgan coming back into form they certainly look even more intimidating. Australia are missing Mike Hussey big time. I can't understand why they aren't looking at an in-form Cameron White?
Dave Hussey can easily slot in at no 3 and White can add those extra 20-30 runs at the end. He has been doing well for his county I guess and was in fine form during the IPL. Surely he is a better lower order player than Bailey or for that matter a Forrest!

Spinny - Dravid is already playing so only Michael is missing and Marsh is out of form he can hardly score a run so its useless to pick him when you already have settle openers and Milky the reason behind Australia picking bits and pieces players are because they no longer have the confidence in their batting lineup those were the days when we used to get Hayden,Gilly,Ponting, Symond,Hussey,Watson all in one team really it was so scary that lineup now i doubt even Bangladesh are scare of Australia's current lineup.

This would be my line up:
1. Warner 2. Watson 3. Clarke* 4. Dave Hussey 5. Bailey (although if Marsh or White found form I'd pick them) 6. Mike Hussey 7. Wade†8. Lee 9. Pattinson 10. Lyon 11. Cummins Back up pacers would be Bollinger, Hilfenhaus, Siddle and Harris (wouldn't pick him because I'd prefer him in tests) and McKay... and maybe Johnson. All these pacers are ODI standards in my opinion. |

One thing we should acknowledge is that England have been one hell of a team at home lately, just not losing a game and thrashing their opponents, beating them left, right and center.
The thing about Australia is that they can no longer rely on the Hussey brothers because they won't be around for long, I repeat what they need to do is unearth better batsmen, much like how they got Clarke 8 years ago. Warner is one such batsmen and I hope they get Tim Paine back in ahead of Wade, Paine is a class player, unfortunately marred by injuries. My Aussie line up for now would be: Warner Watson Marsh / Jacques / Khawaja Clarke (c) M Hussey D Hussey Paine Pattinson Lee Krejza / Lyon / any spinner Cummins / Siddle Edited by sam_ahmed - 03 July 2012 at 7:12pm |

Australia are becoming like current Pakistani team they have some world class players but sadly the people running the car are blind and Sam i really don't see Krejza ever getting a chance in Odi and i think its better not to play him as Lee,Cummings and Pattinson are already wild people so too many attacking option can lead toward disasters and i think atleast in Odi they should not stop playing a spinner until they find someone decent enough to get a chance i feel Warner,Hussey and Clarke are the best spinners currently in Australia so no need to play anyone else.
Australia's basic problem is not their bowling its the batting lineup mostly middle order that has really made Australia into a ordinary side they are missing Symonds who i remember used just come and start from ball one most of the time this is what Australia seriously lack they do have someone like White who can hit well but he too takes alot time before getting start. |

Yet another downpour and it kills off any chance of a whitewash and topping the ODI ratings for the English. Pity that , I won't be surprised if the Durham fixture suffers the same fate.

Clinical performance really by England. I really don't understand why Clarke doesn't bat at number 3. The best batsman in the team should occupy that position and Clarke is ideal for that spot. Cameron White did so well in England last time he played for Australia. Don't understamd why they don't pick him!
Lee and Watto's injuries were a big blow and I don't really see the Aussies bouncing back to win the last game!

Series gone just like that for Australia... I don't even remember when was the last time Australia lost a series in three straight games? May be we'll have to go several decades back to see when it happened the last time.
Australia need to seriously re-think their batting options, at the moment their resources are very thin. On the other hand congratulations to England, they have been unstoppable at home since last 3 years now, their series against the South Africans will be the final frontier at home.

Terrific bowling by Finn - he was on a hattrick on two occasions. This really is a poor Aussie side and Micky Arthur gave them a real rollicking after the game. At no point did England have to break sweat in chasing such a low total - at the moment KP isn't being missed at all!
Old Trafford tomorrow and the forecast is dire - I reckon the Aussies will be more than happy to see it pour down all day. |

They keep breaking down Sam - the rigours on modern day cricket is taking it's toll. So the 5th ODI and another easy win for the home team , albeit by D/L. Another 50 and 2 cheap wickets for Ravi Bopara probably seals his place in the side for the 1st test next week against SA. The Aussie batting was absolutely dire yet again - they just haven't played at all this series. The ball turned and they had no answer to Tredwell's probing length and Bopara's nagging seamers. 140-odd was never enough and the run outs didn't help either! Rather a disappointing series , no real drama , but any English supporter will take it ! 10 straight ODI wins in 2012 can't be discounted after years of awful one day cricket , but we'll see just how far England have come when they play SA in the same format. One thing they'll have to improve on is their catching - usually solid , in this series they've been really poor with 3 more being spilled last night. Pity about the rain or 5-0 was a distinct possibility and with it ,the number 1 ranking. Apparently this result is Australia's worst ever - some work to do then !
