Welll the aussies bowled really good this morning. Lee was really impressive. A loss is inevitable for the windies now.

West Indies should be somewhat happy with their performance in this test match. I guess many people were expecting them to lose by many more runs.
Jerome Taylor should be back for the next test so a stronger bowling line up but who will make way? Barbados is known for pace and some good bounce which makes it good for top quality batsmen. My say is that Jaggernauth will make way.
Hayden will be back for the Aussies and I think Clarke should be available too so Katich and Hodge goes.

Katich will go but it wouldn't surprise me if Jaques misses out, Hodge had a good game in a low scoreing affair and his fielding is miles ahead of both Katich and Jaques. He could quite easily open and I like the left right hand combo. This test will be WI highlite I think though, the only thing stopping the aussies dominating is their catching, too many have been grassed over the last year.

The Aussies looked mortal in this match , but they still came through.
I've a lot of time for Stuart Clark , a good old fashioned trier. Lee ,
as always , gave 100 per cent too.
Still , some decent performances from
the home attack and a fine knock by Chanderpaul. Their batting is thin
though and that pitch was always going to be the winner on the final
day. The sooner Gayle recovers , the better.

Clark could be one of the great modern-day sub-continent bowlers with his nagging accuracy and ability to move the ball off the seam. MacGill was ineffective and Johnson didn't provide much either. Bring back Warney!

Clarke didn't even play Bondy. Stuy Clark was magnificant and he has now proved himslef on almost all kind of tracks.

He hasn't played in England yet, or true sub-continent pitches like India or Pakistan but he is well on the way, yes.

He is now 32 and by the time he does it he would be 34-35. Time for retirement.
So one of those unlucky guys who couldn't make it into the team at the young age because of too much of competition then.

brilliant stuff frm the aussies, clark will get his chance in october this year to perform on subcontinent tracks when the aussies come to india for a 4 match test series. still a lot of positives for the WI from this test, edwards was superb and morton also showed charecter, bravo is fast becoming a top class all rounder.

Now the WI?? come on this is just one test match and it's not even finished yet.......You know how the WI are.....one good day, everyone thinks things are looking good for them and they get everyone's hopes up but they manage to make a mess the next day.....so my advice is just don't hold your breath on the west indies doing something amazing today...it just may not come. |
i didn't expected them to win daisy, and believe me on that, but they sure are improving which is very good to see. also what i meant was the australia are not having it as easy as they used to earlier, without hayden that top order looks very thin.
i hope taylor comes in for sammy or juggernauth for the next match. edwards, powell taylor and bravo will be a very decent attack for the first time in a long time for the WI.
by the way is hayden going to be back for the 2nd test?

Terrific reverse swing generated by Lee in as fine a bowling stint as
I've ever seen him produce. Got it going both ways and the Windies
batsmen hadn't a clue. Having said that some of the umpiring decisions
were dire - an LBW will the guy so far across I could see middle and
leg stumps when it hit the pad!.
Should be a good last day , I'd expect the
Aussies to bowl from the start , even though the pitch is still
good. We'll see if these Windies batsmen have the technique
to see out 90 overs or so - if the weather is kind. Sorry to say
, I don't see them doing it.

Their hopes will rest on Sarwan, Bravo and Chanderpaul as per usual, but I'm with Sledge. I can't see them lasting it out against the likes of Clark and Lee.
One thing I've been surprised with is Ponting's sparing use of Clark. He only bowled 14 overs in the West Indies first innings, less than Johnson (who's been less effective them Clark and Lee), MacGill (who's horribly out of form) and Clarke (who's a part-timer !). He's been their form bowler this tour in such conditions and doesn't bowl express - what's with the tactics Punter?

One down, nine to go. No doubt about it though, Devon Smith just about surviving a barrage of bouncers before offering Hussey some catching practice at gully.
Lee is bowling from Mark Benson's end, by the way.

Why has this entire test been watched by a handful of people? I have been to Antigua and the lovely locals love their cricket. So why the empty stands with one man and his dog in attendance?

i am indeed happy with the outcome today. i just couldn't believe what i had watched yesterday, day 4, i couldn't believe that this was actually test cricket. and where in the hell did russel tiffin come from once more gettin himself onto the panel.. the man is incompetent. The Windies almost lost that test because of him..

West Indies did me happy today. Terrific effort from Sarwan and Chanderpaul although they were aided by woeful bowling from MacGill. Johnson hasn't been impressive either and as I've always said, as a lefty, you need to swing them back into right hand bats to be somewhat successful.
It was a good surface to bat on although there was some help for the bowlers now and again with the odd one keeping low and rising a bit more.
Jerome Taylor bowled beautifully in the game and he really is maturing into a very good bowler. Very pleasing as a Windies fan and Edwards, I'm loving the hostility.
Well, on to Barbados for the final test where the pitch should be much more pacy and bouncier than the first two test pitches. Both teams love it like that and if West Indies continue with their fighting spirit, it could be a good test match.

Gritty stuff from the Windies on day 5 and a deserved draw.
The pitch held up well , but it still took some guts to eek out the
result. Stuart MacGill has lost the plot and looked almost as bad
as Keith Medleycott just before he stopped playing. I think we've
seen his last ball in 1st class cricket , nevermind tests.

My best guesses would be that it was during the week, the West Indies weren't winning, and the ground appears to be in the middle of nowhere.
Antiguans help me out here.

Apparently MacGill bowled one or two really good spells without any luck. As for Johnson, he doesn't threaten enough to warrant uncertainty from the batsman. Chanderpaul and Sarwan looked comfortable facing him from start to finish.
Ponting relied heavily on Lee and Clark to do the damage which has worked since the retirement of Warne and McGrath to a certain extent. Time to breed a new spinner into the mix and someone who can really swing the ball - how's hilfenhaus performing 143?
