Definatly! The loss of a group of the best players including Warne,McGrath and Gilly retiring have weakened the Aussies to the extent that the test series they play from now on will actually be exciting!

As long as Pontings around Bladescape, The Aussies will always be a very stong and disciplened team. The new players seem to be fitting in well into the team though. As long as they have the right captian, They will still be a very stong team.

While I admit that as long as they have Ponting it will still be tough to beat them I just don't see the current team going to India and winning there,It took a formidable team to win there once in 2005 I just don't think the current team is good enough,For one they haven't got a tried and tested good spinner anymore and the pitches up in India will favour spin a lot more,And I am worried for the aussies because of the pace and spin and batting depth I saw just recently in the IPL.I think it would be tough for them to win in India but if they win you can bet I'd be partying all night long.

You sure as hell can bet I'd be having a few beers if we beat Aussie in the last two games.

Anyhow, good point bladescape but I'll reserve my comments for when the time comes.

Ponting got lucky with that score on sunday by the way, his nemesis Taylor wasn't around. Wink

I think Taylor is the basis of a future Pace attack as powerful as the Ambrose pace attack but will be inifectual against Australia!

If you're comparing Taylor to Ambrose , you're offbeam , Taylor has a long , long way to go before getting close to the great man.

But if you're comparing the current Taylor led attack against that of the Marshall led attack which included Ambrose , you're off your head!

i used to read mini interviews from international cricketers back in ninties, they used to ask this typical question ...who is the most difficult bowler to face...answer invaribly would be..Curtly Ambrose.....the back up for the answer without a difference ...he gives you nothing to score runs against ..........he never used to give nothing to make life any pleasent at the crease either.

Yep, Ambrose was deadly accurate - hardly use to give away half volleys or bowl leg side deliveries although a common thing with them great West Indian pacer was that no balls was commonish.

Anyhow, I like what I see of Taylor so far.  I think he's is going to develop into a very damn good fast bowler.  Love his goodish pace and he is skiddy more than anything plus he can swing the new ball away and when they don't swing away, they nip back in and he tries to bowl a lot in the corridor or fuller lengths.  Anyone who have Ponting in all kind of trouble at 24 years old have to have something real good about him.

No,what I mean Sledger is I am predicting that Taylor in the future will be one of another great fast bowling unit, and I am not sure when but I think that the Windies will become great again...eventually.

Everything comes around again at some stage, but judging by the amature way the grounds seem to be run over there, it may be some time off.

With the infrastructure (or lack of it) in the Caribbean , I just don't see the Windies dominating the game in the next 20 years or so. Maybe the money that's being brought into T20 will increase further to encompass cricket at all levels in the region , but I doubt that.   Practice facitilities and quality coaches from school age throught to Shell shield are still way behind those of the top cricketing nations - a sad but true observation.

And until they lengthen our first class season, West Indies won't improve.  Gayle just had a say about that as well.

Regarding the structure of cricket in the region, Gayle said it is a good idea to have a longer first class season, as well as having matches running concurrently with the International home games.

"Guys finish their club cricket a bit early and you still have Test cricket going on. It is something we need to take into consideration, try and develop, make the first-class season a bit longer, so guys can come in and play good competitive cricket. It is always going to be difficult sitting at home and come into international cricket and expect to perform. We need to set some better programmes. We have the facilities here. We have to utilise them as much as possible," he suggested.  He also said that if players get dropped, they can go back to the first-class series.

The season finished early because there are only one round of games, so only six first class games were played this year and the list A games does play later on in the year so it's very short and they wonder why West Indies players play so.....  I remember one year recently they played 10 but that was probably in 2005.

So, West Indies had a win in their hands and threw it away!!  Man, I won't bother summing up the game cause my mood is very disappointing at the moment.  Maybe West Indies need Akhtar to hit some of the players with the bat, maybe they'll learn that way.

I'm very happy now. The aussies have won by just one run. They snatched victory in the last 3 overs! What an awsome game.

Galye had an awsome match with the bat.
What brillent work their by Lee too!

yeeeeeeee! well done Aussie's!Clap

No, trust me, I will tell you as an avid Pakistan cricket follower, you do not want a character as troublesome as Akhtar on the WI side.

I completely understand your disappointment though. West Indies looked pretty set to take the game when about 50 runs were needed with 6/7 wickets in hand and enough balls to reach the target. I'm not sure what happened after that as I had stopped following thinking that WI would win with relative ease. I'll be honest though; even then - when they were pursuing a required RR of about 5 - there was a fear creeping through me of WI throwing away the game...and they did?! What the hell!! I get tired of seeing Australia win all the time. No offense to any Aussies out there; I want to congratulate you folks on [yet another] victory, but I do like to see competition and a balance of victories and defeats.
Regulation without integration leads to suicide.

I actually prefer a close series than a whitewash to the Aussies, while I do like to see the Aussies win at all times I like it to be close so I actually hope the Windies win the final ODI.

I saw it and while I think he is a very brutal power batsman,I don't think he is the next Gilly.
Gilly was amazing in his day and I don't think Ronchi has the ability to reach those hights.

Well, it has been a very disappointing weekend for me!  A should have win turned into a loss and now a heavy defeat.  What tactics were the west indians (Australian - Dyson) thinking of by only going in with 4 capable bowlers (Powell, Edwards, Miller and Bravo) when they know Edwards can be wayward and Bravo isn't the best at containing.  I don't see the reasoning behind strengthening batting and weakening bowling when your part timer is at a high risk of leaking many runs.

Anyhow, West Indies bowling isn't too shabby at all although I saw some really woeful bowling today but in general, the batting is the big let down!  That seriously needs some work on.

Well, congrats to the mighty Aussies!  They do the basics real well - when they're not getting boundaries, thiefing ones and twos with ease and everyone of their batsman is capable of biffing the ball!  To me, their biggest problem is their bowling attack cause in all honesty, Bracken and Lee looks the only threatening ones in the ODI's and in the test, it was just Lee and Clark and Clarke too, he bowls some real decent stuff!

Johnson is very good as well Spinny.
Yes,Clarke does bowl decent stuff in fact his ability to bowl has given me to start thinking that Clarke isn't a part timer!
He bowls so well that I think it would be unfair to call him a part timer.
He is an allrounder in my eyes.

I think they have the 2nd best bowling attack in ODI's
Lee,Bracken,Johnson,Watson,Hopes,Symonds,Clarke,David Hussey and not to forget Michael Hussey also can bowl useful overs.
3 main bowlers,3 all-rounder and 3 part timers is still not enough?

Not a matter of not enough, they're just not threatening.  My sister will easily negotiate both Husseys and Watson's bowling has gotten even worse than it was in my eyes.  Hopes isn't nothing special with the ball either and niether is Symonds.  Johnson is kinda effective in this version and Lee and Bracken the stars, especially Bracken - he hardly gives anything away!

West Indies had Taylor, Edwards, Bravo, Sammy, Benn, Gayle, Sarwan is some games, that's 7 bowlers, were they enough?

Not a bad show by the aussies considering a lot of know it all's claim them to be on the slide, compare the world cup side and this one, plenty of changes, still the same results.  I thought the windies might have produced some tough games in the odi's, a few of you guys suggest the batting is the problem, I think it's more the bowling, Taylor is looking like he might be ok, the rest are poor, Fidel Edwards is one of the worst international bowlers I have seen and his attitude is no better, goes for 10 an over and still carries on when he takes a wicket or bowls a good ball.  I was very dissapointed in them this series.

As for aussies bowling,  ODI bowling is as much about containment, the part timers don't need to threaten, just bowl to a feild and choke the batsmen. Clark, Lee, and Bracken should be the test bowlers heading to India, maybe even time to see if Cameron White is ever going to be a test spinner. However you look at it, with Aussies already in a transition and doing well, the future looks bright. Be interesting to see how India handle most of their top 6 retireing around the same time, as well as their champion spinner, young Sharma already showing signs of being a bit injury prone. Looking forward to september.
Monkey see, Monkey do.
