The 1st Test is almost over and no thread!

It was a very good Test match too. Good batting from McCullum and Guptill especially after an early scare. It would have been great if they reached their double tons.

Bangladesh were almost the same. A very bad start followed by a strong revival. Sakib did very well for his 87 while Mamudullah was fantastic yet again for his hundred. Unfortuntely, it looks like NZL have almost wrapped up this one but Shakib, Rahim and Mahmudullah are still yet to get out and they are Bangladesh's best batsmen right now.

If nothing else this test provided more evidence as to why Guptill should have at least got to auction stage in the IPL. I don't think I have seen such timing, power and class all rolled into one before - ever. The interesting thing will be what the selectors do once Ryder returns. Does Ryder take up the no.3 position poisoned chalice, despite his runs at no.5. Or, does Guptill move back up the order, where I would argue he belongs into the no.3 spot. I don't expect to see him opening again any time soon, and Ingram is more of temporary filler at the no.3 spot while we have players out injured.

A decent show in the end by the Bangla boys. They showed some improvement over the course of the tour, but it seems to me they start every series weak, and build up to being compedative rather than going on from where they left off the previous series.

Bangladesh have some very good players.  Iqbal, Shakib, Madmudullah, Rahim are all very good at the moment and Shakib is superb really.  Madmudullah as well, the guy bats so late and still scores plenty!  Their fast bowling needs work - I liked Rubel's hostility, if he continues like that, he'll be of good use!
In troubled times, being philosophical helps a great deal, it helps you to remain sane and not do any further damage.

And Mahmudullah has very good technique as well and dooes not let the pressure get to him. Gets the boundaries and rotates strike with equal amount of ease.
