Well yes, knowledge comes by learning but in cricket you gain a lot by age.

Not so, you can play the game for years, and be hopeless at it; you can watch the game for a lifetime, but learn nothing about it; to learn you need an open mind.

Pretty much, I often get flack for using "old fashioned words" based on the fact I am fairly literate however in Hertfordshire thats anything with more than 2 syllables.

Here's a tip, if a ball is gonna outswing, it usually moves away in the air first then off the pitch; same for inswingers! It's a different story though when the ball is seaming around; simply no way of reading it before it pitches.

With my above tip on the swinging balls, you should now have an idea of how to play it.

Yup, unless it pitches middle and leg ....... leave it.  Ain't going to do your stumps any damage if it is sailing towards 1st slip.

Well, if the bowler bowls there all day long, the score at the end of the day might look like. 20/0 from 90 overs. LOL

move a bit cross.  getting to the pitch of the ball is important which in result , the ball will not do much movement because you are close to the pitch. if it's a bit short and has good enough width, punch it off the backfoot

He surely would be an idiot! Anyways, if the batsmen are getting contained, it's more than likely they are gonna do something reckless.

how do u guys play really fast bowlers first of all
as i mentioned in one of my posts in 'becoming a pro'
that i can't even see the ball properly is it because
these bowlers i faced were older than me? I'm almost 15
and say these guys were around 17-18
What goes around comes around!

Cant say i've ever been literally beaten for pace and bowlers that bowl really quickly tend to spray it a bit and then you can hit the bad balls, if you literally cant see the ball properly because of speed then i'd get either your eyes or your reflexes tested.

jus going back to anil kumble's post about being nervous, just think wot is the worst that could possibly happen? you gt out 1st ball, you get hit, thts the worst. so all you hav got to do is believe u will neither be hit or get out. once i face my 1st ball im fine.

On merit.  Leave a few, get used to the pace and bounce, pick off the bad balls, get hit a bit, smile a lot.

Faced 80 MPH on the bowling machine last night and was creaming the ball 3/6. Not bad considering my age. Althbough, it's all about getting your eye in. Have a low backlift maybe..? I don't know.

take a generous step back and always keep your eyes on the ball and get everything behind it. If you have soft hands, then play with a slight angle. the pace of the ball will do enough for a quick single and as Sledge said, play from the other end.

Ian Chappel used to say that when he just got in he would try and hit everything with his inside edge. Bradman did a similar thing but actually hit slightly towards mid on instead of straight. This would stop outside knicks.

Right lads, i need/want your help. When i'm batting i have a tendency to fall over - thus meaning that some shots are dictated by my head position rather than where the ball is bowled. Any tips, advice, drills you know of to 'cure' this problem?
