Hi Guys,

I usually open the batting in grade cricket over here in Aus. However, I have always really been a more defensive type of player. I have worked on scoring more quickly etc and I have felt an improvement.

However, I have never been really good at hitting 6's but I hit quite a few 4's. Now there is a Twenty20 comp coming up and I really want to know any tips or tricks to allow me to score more 4's and possibly 6's (I have never hit a six in my grade cricket career) lol.

I really want to improve, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

forget all of the touch shots square of the wicket for 1. concentrare on hitting down the ground and really smack it, dont worry about keeping it down just hit it hard.

thats not the way to go at all, when have you ever seen collingwood just trying to smack it for 6, and hes one of the best ODI players around,  id advice being extrmly aware of the gaps, and push it in them for 2 and prehaps 4

yea its quite possible to score quickly without having to hit sixes. Know your game, some guys will swing their bat but if your game is to push it around then keep on doing that. Try to score a run a ball in singles the odd boundary will always come along. You do your job let the big hitters do theirs.

Mmm. Sounds good. However we don't have many, if any, big hitters or even "regular cricket players" in the team. Thats why there is extra pressure on me to perform. I'll try what you guys have said.

no i was talking about batting in 20Twenty games not 50 over ODI's. i didn't say hit 6's but just dont concentrate so much on keeping it on the ground and dont play these daft dabble shots, hit down the ground. it also depends wherabouts you bat in the order. at the top, i feel the best way to go about a 20Twenty innings is to keep wickets in hand for the first 10 overs and create a platform and then hit out for the last 10. also the point Smack made about knowing your game, this is vital. if you dont hit down the ground then dont but thats the best area to score, and you will get most scoring opportunities.

same thing really except go for it the whole way, still get yourself in (quickly) and still play your own game.

In die hard situations, getting yourself in isn't an option; especially in 20-20.
In troubled times, being philosophical helps a great deal, it helps you to remain sane and not do any further damage.

Go crazy in the first six, settle down a bit for the next 7 overs, then go extra crazy with the bat in the last 6 or 7 overs.
