does anyone on this forum belive they are talented enough to become a pro? has anyone not in the "system" by the age of 15-17 got a chance of becoming a pro?   also monty panesar began bowling spin at the age of 16 and was advised 2 do so by his coach at northants so does tis mean that he played county as a medium pace bowler?

crickets different from football or soccer, you dont need to be spotted as easy if you want to have a chance, i tihkn anything above 18 is getting to late, but theres still a chance i guess,

if you have something special, you will get your chance

look at todays greatest cricketers. Stuart Clark was a real estate agent before he got into the Australian team at age 30. And Michael Hussey the greatest example of them all, didn't get into the team till age 30 either.

Most young cricketers on the international scene aren't that good anyway. It would be far better to start your career at an older age I think so that u have experience domestically

The simple anwser is no, its not to late if your not in the system by 15-17. I know here in NZ, many players make a name for themselves in top grade club cricket and are then selected for their domestic sides.

i somehow have this feeling that 1 may 1 day become a pro! It is this feeling that motivates me to practice cricket for at least 2 hours a day. I'm only 14 and
i'm not that good, by batting sucks to the core but my spin is really good.So i'm still dreaming LOL

i think the system in australia and new zealand is the best. correct me if i am wrong but do u join a club say in your late teens and if u are gd enough to be selected for the A grade you can be scouted from your grade team into your domestic team. i dont think there should be an international team until under 19s.

It's funny, anytime I see Tendulkar's highlights of wonderful stroke plays, I just feel like I can take any attack in the world to pieces. LOL

Yeah, spin, thats the same with me. When you watch a masterful Sachin innings eg his 98 vs Pakistan in 2003 or that 100* off 76 balls. The beautiful look of his strokes, added with the punch he gets just motivates you to keep training and training.
"His classical hits down the ground, met with a checked drive, were Tendulkar at his best. It was though he had a new lease of life." - Sachin Tendulkar's return to cricket with a 91-Ball century.

I just can't imagine how all you batsman can play, the
other day i was facing one of the fast bowlers and i could hardly see the ball let alone play it.
And the thought of hitting these bowlers for 4s and 6s
is almost unimaginable for me!

I believe that one day I will be a pro, I also believe the moon to be made of cheese and that Elvis is still alive.

Its all in the mind.

Nothing is impossible, or as Adidas put it, "Impossible is nothing".

You can only try your best, and if something is meant to happen, it will.

Nip out and find me a couple of identical snowflakes then, or crack the mechanics of perpetual motion ......... I do so hate twee 'nothing is impossible' motivational theory - many things are impossible and many more improbable.  It is, indeed, not impossible to be a professional sportsman but it is improbable, there is nothing wrong with having improbable aspirations as long as you recognise this and don't put all of your eggs in one basket.  I wasn't suggesting people shouldn't dream the improbable (though they should steer away from the impossible) but that they should do so from the perspective of the realist.

I would have to disagree. I reckon you should put all of our eggs in one basket. It will pay off if you work hard enough. As I said, Nothing is impossible. If someone actually puts their heart and mind to something, they WILL achieve it. I don't care about this improbable, impossible, realist whatever. To achieve something impossible or should i say "improbable" you can't have the mind of a realist, otherwise nothing will happen.

So thought hoards of would-be professional footballers resigned to a life without a second career because not only were their eggs all in one basket, but they all broke!

Never take up teaching!

Then many of those footballers were idiots. I will
never give up my education to start a career in cricket but i shall certainly practice hard and try and become
good.Maybe there is a chance of getting sports scholarships as well
