Great batter Lara and I saw him play some wicked knocks under tremendous pressure like that 153 against the Aussies in Barbados. A top class knock that was a scintillating stroke to pull off the match. A matter of fact, most of Lara's innings, he was under pressure because there were hardly other quality batter around him.

In troubled times, being philosophical helps a great deal, it helps you to remain sane and not do any further damage.

He had Hooper, Richardson, Haynes, Chanderpaul, Sarwan with him. So he was not alone.

Those mentioned above bar Richardson and Haynes are in no class of what Ponting and Tendulkar have with him.

Inzi had a few good ones. The 1994 test match against the Aussies where he won it for Pakistan sharing a last wicket partnership with Mushtaq under immense pressure.

He did it again when he saved a test match against BD. Again  a  win by 1wicket!!!

And you will certaily remember the test match that they recently won against  SA, where he  batted  so well with tail-enders.

I think it is definitely Dravid, he is a extremely patient man who gets his eye in at first, and then plays a sensible innings.

Yeah dravid is certainly one of the best batsmen under pressure, still remember that innings against australia he played under great pressure and chasing about 540 runs with 4
wickets down. He and laxman were at the crease and both of them made centuries and dravid went on to make a double ton.
Those were the days............ i hardly get to see these
kind of matches nowadays. Cricket was more interestig a few years back.

When has Ponting, a part from the 2005 Ashes Series when Australia managed to draw the forth test, bat under pressure?

Good one Graham!

He bats well in the limited overs match when the openers get out cheaply but still he hasen't been put under pressure for a long time. He bats on his own terms.

When Ponting comes in there is usually a foundation laid for him. He also knows in the back of his mind that there's plenty of batting talent to come. I've always rated players for their ability to perform not only in pressure situations, but pressured sides. For example Stephen Fleming has always underperformed as a batsman because of the huge amount of pressure that is being placed on him- not only as a captain of the side, but as NZ's best batsman. I have always felt that given a chance to bat in a strong line-up he would flourish and fulfill his potential as a batsman.

I've always admired Michael Vaughan for his tremendous Ashes series in 2003. Hard to go past a better batting performance, consistently against one of the greatest ever sides.

Well bondy, based on your criteria, Brian Lara is the best batsman in the world by a mile!

Looking at yesterdays match between England and India, I can say 'Dhoni is a good player under pressure'.But few things he still lacks are:
  1. Footwork
  2. Consistency
  3. Experience
There could be more things which can be pointed out which Dhoni lacks. But I am really impressed by his yesterday's performance.

I don't know much about Hooper but I do know a bit about Chanderpaul and Sarwan and I would have to agree with you Spin that they are definately not in the same class of Tendulkar and Ponting.

yeah I have to agree about the patient and sensible part. He is an anchor man. you can always depend on him to stay by the wicket and score runs. The nice thing about Dravid is that he can adjust to situations.

I have no idea but he is a class act so maybe if he is presented with the opportunities he may just do the trick for the aussies. The problem is that the aussies are hardly ever under pressure. LOL.
