Batting against the West Indies on home conditions is no test for him- even Vaughan scored a ton. I'm not saying he won't perform, but let's hold the singing of his praises until he can really prove himself- thus far however, he isn't doing so bad.
Good one Graham!

Matt Prior learnt his trade under England coach , Moores , when he coached Sussex.  Successful stint too in that they won 2 county championships after years of underachieving.
I'm not getting carried away just yet. He made that ton when the runs were already on the board , let's see how he goes when England are 80-5 !

Good point sledge. Pressure is sure to tell whether he can save the day for England.

Vaughan at test cricket normally does quite well. He's not so good at the limited overs cricket.

Prior looks like he can become good but I'd rather wait and see rather than create a hype and put unnecessary public pressure on him.
Pressure situations are bound to come on the pitch so I'd like to see how he handles that.

Vaughan was out of international test cricket for 18 months through injury. he will come good in tests again.

Anyway, that's not what this thread's about.

Yes , Vaughan was incredibly fortunate to get to 41 yesterday - it was very scratchy.

I don't think it's necessary to go and pull up old threads just for the sake of saying 'it's dying'. Not every thread that isn't being posted on needs to be closed samhache. Methinks your on the dark side Thumbs%20Down

Dhoni hasnt performed outside subcontinent. look at his record in west indies tour in 2006.http://www.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/2006/IND_IN_WI/
And in south africa 2006/2007 his performance was very poor http://content-www.cricinfo.com/rsavind/engine/match/249217.html
he only score on flat pitches. FLAT TRACK BULLY

I think he'll be in the squad or at least on the fringe of the England squad.

I think that will come down to the One Day's coming up and the test series against india.
If he performs well in these then he'll be in the squad for a little while at least. We can't say a long time yet because nobody knows the future.

Prior still lacks something that Nixon has. And I'm hoping that he'll learn it with time. The ability to get inside Batsmen's heads.

Each keeper has a way of doing this. Nixon's way is to chirp right in the ear of a batsman to try and break their focus. He also puts doubt in a batsman's mind by dictating what the bowler should do. I've seen that he does this best at county level though.
My way is to pick apart their technique and make them over conscious of it. This way they're concentrating on fixing what you say and they'll concentrate less on what the bowler's doing. Works much better with spinners than medium pacers.

If Prior can learn this then he'll become a great keeper.

  Dentures and wrinkles?

But seriously , Prior is a better bat and will surely bring some stability to the top of the order.  He plays orthodox strokes and can only get better.
Nixon did well , but at 36 he should happily see out his time in county cricket in the knowledge that he did play internationally , albeit for a short period.

Agreed Sledge. I am sure he was pretty disappointed to miss out on the one day squad, but at least the T20 has come around at the same time and since he excels in this version he'll enjoy himself. In addition I know he was in something of a quandry as this is his benefit year and England call-ups would have affected his ability to give that the attention it needs so again there is some form of consolation there.

I was unaware that it's his benefit year Clobs , that's a lot of work!   He deserves it too , a fine pro who's made the best of himself - I hope he makes a shedload of dosh!

Playing the in World Cup gave him a flying start and helped his public profile anyway so hopefully he'll do nicely.

Prasanna Jayawardane made a century recently. There was no questions about his wicket keeping abilities, but there were about his batting abilities. If he can repeat it against better sides, he'll be a top class keeper batsman.

If he's a better keeper than Sangakarra then he'll have the world at his feet. Kumar's a great keeper and a devastating batsman once he gets going.
