Someone probably does.
But you'd be better off buying some SS Sunridges pads and getting the same quality for half the price. |

Puma have really good pads espically the stealth and ballistic range but the ballistic 6000 pads look like WK pads

I just got a pair of the new BDM Titanium pads. They are being worn by Sehwag from India and Tendulkar is trialling them to. They were about $130AU but for an ultra-light weight pad they are soo cheap! They seem to be modelled on the Morrant Ultralight which was the "best in the world" for a light pad but hey they are AWESOME quality and much cheaper. Plus you are paying about $150 for a good pair of regular pads anyway so why not save a few bucks and be the coolest on your team.

Hahaha worst advice EVER! You're protecting your legs here! Depending on what level of cricket you're playing you will face quick bowlers where you will need good pads. You always need a good pads and a good bat. Gloves are probably the option where you can get away with some cheap stuff and go purely for comfort, but with pads you really need a good protective model. |

So true heinz - if pads were all the same, they would all be the same price!! However, features are important not brands. It is fair to say that a small number of companies (in particular SG) make most of the recognized UK brands. However, the SG, SS, BDM or CA equivalents can now be purchased in the UK at (prehaps) half the price of the same specification in a UK name. You can get these at on-line shops like getpaddedup.co.uk, thesporthq.com etc. |

You can't do better than Aero pads. Lighter than anything on the market and much better protection. They are shaped so that you can run faster between wickets.
Yeah they look different, but then, as Heinz said, you are protecting your legs against quick bowlers. You can't run that fast if you have a bruise developing on your shin or your patella has been smashed... They come in great colours as well as traditional white. AERO pads suck! The look terrible and are hard as a rock - buyer beware! I recommend the latest BDM Titanium pads, they are ultra light-weight and are very price friendly. I use them in first grade and they are fantastic.

Puma seem to have the lightest pads, so I recently got the Puma Ballistic 5000's in SM. Very very lightweight and comfortable, don't look bad at all (compared to the 6000 'wicketkeeper' look) and in Small Mens sizes was only AU$95 rather than $150 or so for full size.
Make sure whatever pads you get, size them correctly. If SM fits, thats great, because you can get some top quality ones (like the top range Puma's) at cheap prices. I looked at Aero, and well, great idea, but looks aren't there and didn't seem to be the lightest as they claim. Maybe if you are facing really fast bowlers then they offer good protection. Maybe Aero will actually make them look alright at some stage? |

How light do you want? Ignoring the expensive UK brands, SG do a Prolite model, each pad weighs in at under 600g - good style too unlike the Aero (what is that!!!). Try a Froogle product search (via http://froogle.google.co.uk).

I second the new BDM titanium batting pads. They are ultra light ... offer very very good protection, and are very reasonably priced. I paid about ~Rs.2000 which is about US $45. Even better are their batting gloves for about the same price. Whenever i travel to india, invariably i bring back a kit bag worth of cricket goodies!

Absolutely - they are top quality pads hey. I've been through HEAPS of pads before, and these BDM Titanium's are definately the best i have tried. Only problem is that they can get dirty very easily as the facing on the pad has a material cover instead of pvc facing or something else that wipes clean. Im looking at getting some sort of stain remover product and using this on the pads like twice a year or something. Where did you get the pads for $45USD?? Thats a crazy good deal. My pads cost abut $120AUD which is still great for top of the line pads. I haven't seen their gloves, i might have to check them out.

ah well, if looks are all you are after, as opposed to better performance, then the other brands are definitely for you. But if you want to be faster between wickets and be better protected, then Aero should be your choice. Puma Balistic 6000 legguards = 1.8kg. Aero P1s = 900g. Do the math |

How many test players are there wearing Aero pads? Whats that? Zero? - I THINK THERE IS A REASON FOR THAT! Good idea, but ugly as hell. I mean why spend all the R&D money and then make an ugly pad? I personally found them restrictive with alot of shots and the fact that they are a few grams lighter than some other pads really doesn't put forward a strong case for them.

Hmmm. Maybe your not as up with the play as you think.
Last I looked Shane Bond had played test cricket. And by all reports he won't be the only guy wearing these over the next few months. I've had no problems playing any shots in these? What shots couldn't you play and what model were you wearing? |

Bowlers need good protection too (more so than top flight batters).
Would it make a difference to you if the Aero gear was worn by one of the best batters going around today? (Someone in the top 10 of both the ODI and tests LG rankings) Most of your objections seem to be on cosmetic grounds. I wear these because I can run faster in them between wickets. Yeah they look different and very radical and you cop a bit of sledging initially but after a while people want to try them on and have a bit of a run around. A bit like when people swapped from rising horse to driving cars... Edited by jbel |

"Bowlers need good protection too (more so than top flight batters)." Thats a ridiculous comment. Bowlers bat at the bottom of the order mostly - therfor face an older ball - softer ball. Im just saying if these pads were any good theyd be worn by someone half decent. Personally im not willing to sacrifice comfort for a few milliseconds of pace between the wickets. |

So it would make a difference to you if a recognised batter was using them...
The comment about bowlers isn't ridiculous at all. Often they face the 2nd new ball on a deteriorating track. They are also less well equipped to handle fast bowling. Anyway, the Aero legs are an acquired taste and certainly not for everyone. It all depends on the kind of player you are. I don't think that Aero is setting out to appeal to every person who plays in the way that GN, GM or Kookaburra do. |

I think they are much to thin. I think as a batsman, i wouldn't be comfortable adjusting my defence to make up for the gap between bat and pad. Stick tothe hockey fields i say. |

Could you make it any more obvious that you work at Aero? Its pretty sad if the only people standing up for your product are the employees there. Plus its pretty easy to pose for a photo with a straight bat defence. Im talking about re-adjusting to a narrower pad and having to bring the bat closer to your pad. |

Mate I wish I was an employee of Aero - but I'm not. I am an avid fan though.
Anyway, no need to get personal about it. You don't like the gear - that's your call. I do like it . Let's just agree to differ. |
