Best fielder?

Collingwood, De Villiers, Dilshan, Symonds

Another good South African fielder is Ashwell Prince although I would still go with Ponting as the best fielder

I didn't forget about De Villiers and Prince... I sorely wanted to put them in, but I didn't wanna seem too pro-South Africa. I like maintaining a neutral perspective.

Yes Randall was superb, and back in the days when Gower could field and patrolled the other side of the wicket there weren't too many quick singles to be had against England.

I think it's a toss-up between de Villiers and Collingwood for the best fielder in the world at the moment. Both of their fielding skills are immaculate and they rarely put a catch down, either of them. That catch from Collingwood off Hayden in the 2005 NatWest series was unbelievable, as was de Villiers' run-out to dismiss Katich against Australia and he took a very good catch off Inzy in the recent test series.

D Smith is the best from the caribbean! Bravo is spectacular too!

The best fielder I've ever seen is Roshan Mahanama. Jonty is quite amazing I agree..but if you carefully noticed the catches taken by Mahanama and Jonty....Mahanama has taken amazing catches from all over the ground.Jonty was just outstanding at backward point.
Now there are many top quality fielders.Yuvraj,Raina,Ponting,Gibbs...Dilshan too can be a competitor.

I agree, But when u have spinners in your side you need to place your best fielder according to the situation. In most of the matches that Mahanama has played he has taken the most number of catches.Means the captain has always placed him at the crucial spot.

If you had a gully - covers grouping of:
Collingwood
Dilshan
Symonds
De Villiers

Then the wagon-wheel for the batsman would have to be very legsided .... wouldn't be too many runs through the off.

A good discussion, I would say currently it would be tie between Abe, kaif, and collingwood for ground fielding, and probably ponting , Gayle and gibbs being the best with balls in the air, with their phenomenal catching ability. I have seen Abe and Kaif dropping a few sitters too!

Presently it has to be Ponting and Collingwood although Mark Waugh is the best I ever saw.

Rhodes was too good .At the momment its Symonds i think and followed up by Collingwood ,Michael Clarke ,Ponting ,Dilshan ,De villiers ,Gibbs ,Yuvraj ,Dwayne Smith ,Bravo ,Vincent and Hamish Marshall .

Mate,if you have seen Jonty Rhodes,you need look no further,never been one within a country mile..2 miles, of Jonty,.....only seeing is believing,.......nearest to him at the moment,Clark.

I agree. 180 catches or whatever it was is simply astonishing.
