One man who never gets the number of mentions he deserves when talking about great fielders of yore is Roger Harper.

The best i have seen are Mark Waugh and Jonty Rhodes. The best presently in my opinion are Ponting, Gibbs, Collingwood, Symonds and a bloke who i think doesnt get mentioned enough is Michael Clarke. Magnificent catcher, has a deadly arm and stops 99 out of 100 that go near him.

Of today, there is; Gibbs, De Villers, Ponting, Symonds, Clarke, Bravo, Dwayne Smith, Kaif, Collingwood, Dilshan, Vincent - all magnificent. They are all quick around the ground and can catch with a high percentage rate!! Some are faster than some, some hit the stumps more than some but they are all terrific!!

In world cricket has to be Gibbs
In county cricket Stephen Peters of Northants seems pretty tasty

fielding is all about a combination of factors. Catching, athleticism, reflexes, throwing etc. The best fielders are the ones who are able to make that x-factor catch or run out. |

jonny rhodes was and is the best ever fielder in cricketing history, no doubts about that. Pity i have never seen him play or field. Has he ever dropped a catch?
Nowadays the good fielders are ponting, collingwood, dilshan, symonds , de villiers and kaif |

Vincent is a good fieldsman, so too is Fleming- excellent slipper. You've summed it up pretty well there, they're probably the most going around. |

Fielding these days have become easier as there are more lush outfields than in the past. I remember watching back some clips from in the past and you could of seen some real dry patches in the outfield that one wouldn't really want to slide on. |

jonty rhodes defenitely the best ever. Gibbs and Collingwood of the current lot. I would like to give a special mention to Eknath Solkar, probably the bravest feilder ever. His reflexes were quite brilliant. The best close in feilder ever.

His medium pacers gave Geoffrey Boycott problems too ! As for Solkar being the best close fielder ever , I'd think Brian Close supporters would disagree. |

Yeah I have watched gibbs tonksy, makes some good catches, but has got into the habit of dropping some sitters, important ones too. I don't think some of the guy's realise how good ponting used to be, and how good clarke is now, he certainly hit's the stumps more than jonty.

I meant to add, collingwood is top notch as well, so good he could nearly be an aussie.
