It may have escaped the radar but there is some 'proper' cricket going on right now - the Challenger Trophy in Mohali, India. We have an India Seniors team, India A and India B in a one day tournament. The squads for all three teams, most notably, Tendulkar included in the Seniors team:

India Seniors: Tendulkar, Parab, Yuvraj Singh, Kaif (capt), Venugopal Rao, MS Dhoni (wk), Harbhajan Singh, M Kartik, Pathan, Agarkar, Zaheer Khan, Sivaramakrishnan, Jai Yadav

India A: VVS Laxman (capt), Gambhir, Raina, Badani, N Patel, D Jadhav, D Karthik (wk), R Powar, RP Singh, Balaji, S Nadeem, VR Singh, M Tewari

India B: D Mongia (capt), S Dhiwan, R Uthappa, Y Pathan, S Sriram, S Singh, P Patel (wk), S Santh, R Bose, A Bhandari, R Shukla, P Chawla, S Nair

Each team plays each other once before a final. This seems to me to be a decent idea, it gives the up and coming players a chance to pit themselves against the best and gives the selectors a chance to have a good look at them and how they play under pressure.

India Seniors v India A. Seniors chose to bat and aren't doing fantastically, Yuvraj made 50 but Venugopal Rao has held the innings together, currently 75* and has put on 69 with Agarkar as they move on to 241/6 off of 45 overs.

Tendulkar made just 12 on his comeback.

289/8, a fine assault off the last 5 overs - Rao fell just short of a 100, 98 from 98 balls but Agarkar remained on 54* off of 41 balls. RP Singh the pick of the bowlers with 2-34 from his 10 overs.

India A have made a swift start to their reply, although they have lost both their openers. Laxman and Raina currently at the crease and the score is 77/2 off of 12 overs.

What a game this turned out to be! India A beat the seniors by 1 wicket with 2 balls to spare!

I do think the 'Seniors' is a strange name for what is effectively the first team, but the B team is very inexperienced and quite young so it would take something extraordinary for them to win really.

The seniors are well in charge, chasing down 241, they are currently 209-3 with Yuvraj and Venugopal Rao putting together an unbroken stand of well over 150 and 10 overs to get the runs.

No problem for the Senior side, with Venugopal making 101* leaving Yuvraj Singh stranded on 99*!

India B pulled off a great win over India A yesterday to make their way to the final. Despite a century from Laxman, the hero was Robin Uthappa who hit a century himself in ridiculously quick time to ensure a victory that I for one didn't see coming.

Doesn't that highlight the lack of depth in the bowling in India?

Pretty much, although some normality was resumed in the final as India B were crushed by the Seniors, only making 177 which the Seniors overhauled in 39 overs.
