And why would Wes Indies want to drop Chanderpaul, for me he can also play in a Pro20 too.

excelelnt summation there tyke, his 65 no. is a perfect application of that theory; he only scored 7 boundaries.

Good one Graham!

I like him alot when he's at the crease. That strange stance that looks so awkward, his relaxed temperament that pretty much says "I'm not bothered what you bowl at me, I'm not getting out to you," and the way that he builds an innings is also very strange to see in modern test cricket.
He can take forever to get off the mark it seems but he won't play a single expansive shot until he's ready to and this is why he normally makes good scores.

For some reason I really want the guy to achieve- he's a quiet achiever, a likable guy who in all honesty is playing in a lost cause for the Windies.
Good one Graham!

It's funny looking at this thread now...think about dropping Chanderpaul now... . The windies batting card will look like a joke!

Chanderpaul is a player who gets the job done. If you want him to stay in and hold up an end he will do it. If you are chasing 300+ and need an explosive cameo he can do it. He his scoring at a faster rate than people give him credit for. He is indispensable to the West Indies team and cannot be replaced.

Yup I agree with the last part of that statment spin! He's definately the best batsman on the team now that Lara is gone.

I believe if Chander had open all of his time in ODI's, he would have had a better record. Coming down the order late sometimes and coming early when the team is in loads of trouble isn't easy at all. Well, he is easily the  best batsman after Lara in the Windies side.

The main reason I really love Chanderpaul is that in a West Indies side which has often seemed to lack fight he has been the one man with b0ll0cks (to use the technical term). I particularly remember his performances in England two or three years ago.

I do now take back what I said, bearing in mind I made this thread well over three months ago now, his speed of scoring in those few games was concerning in my opinion, but having seen him in the Pakistan and India series he's been scoring fine now and he's worthy of a place in the side.
On extended leave...

He's a class player, just becasue he scored slowly in 2 games doesn't mean he should be out the door, he's one of the W.Indies best players

Well, I think the way Chander has performed against PAK and India surely shows how worthy he is to the Windies side. He always tries to get set and not to go berserk like the horrendous D Smith!

This is a senseless thread! How in the world can anyone even consider dropping Chanderpaul??? My........Chanderpaul is an excellent ODI player. He does NOT bat too slow. His strike rate is high and I prefer him to Gayle. Many people think Gayle is amazing and he is when he is playing his shots but let's face it........Chanders is class....He can bat to fit mostly any situation and he is one of the few experienced people on the windies team so dropping him would be the most retarded decision ever in the history of cricket!

Ok yes do you remember Morton's 31 balls duck??? Or something like that....thirty something ball duck......that's certain. Really a disappointment. Some people feel that a golden duck is bad but his duck was one of the worst ever!Confused

CHanderpaul is a fine fine player and has been a consistent performer for his team. He has his own style but a delight to watch when on song. I remeber his 60 something ball hundred in a test match against auss.

today's game is a perfectly good illustration of his worthiness

You try batting on a cow pat covered meadow lad , you might find it a tad difficult!

I suppose but you would think the run rate would be a bit more than that.I've batted on terrible pitches before and the best way is to atatck the bowlers along the ground when possible, not block endlessly.
