This is completely off topic but has anyone ever looked at the
scorecards from the 19th century on cricinfo? The games must have been
a cure for insomnia, a bowlers stats were like this once. 80 overs, 69
runs and 3 wickets.

Chanderpaul can never be underestimated. If he is in form, he is very difficult to get out.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul likes playing against the Aussies did you not see his innings of 90 odd runs from 80 balls which included 4 sixes, and yes as Clobs pointed out has the 3rd fastest test century started slowly in that match but just went BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!!!

Completely true. He plays like W.G.Grace. Slow to the lowest level.

I've seen hinds make runs but at the moment he seems like he is just at the learning stage in his life!

i think ill go with clobs and spin .shiv is a valueable player and he has proved it time and again that he is good enough to be playing odi's .on his day he can really prove to be a match winner .he is just having a poor run .one member who needs to be dropped immediately is wavell hinds .

His scoring rate is fine. At times he goes slowly, but he can do a lot of damage if needed. Almost same as Dravid. Had made 50(22) and has also made 17(100).

True clobs and thats why I said he shouldn't be dropped at all. He also plays better as an opener in Odi's. He can't make runs in every match so you never know but the runs will come though.

The 2 games you use as examples were cases where the Windies would win so long as they were not bowled out and that was what Chanderpaul was ensuring.
Bear in mind this guy has the 3rd fastest Test century in history (against Australia no less) before saying he has no shots. I also recall an ODI against England on a tough pitch where he weathered the storm making 10 off 50-odd balls then having played himself in made 75 or so off the next 40. Edited by Clobber |

No, he scored 90* against Australia, thats amazing.
Chanderpaul batted slowly against Bangladesh to give Chris Gayle the century and slowly against Zimbabwe because it would be unfair for the next man to come in with like 4 runs left to win. I dont think its open to discussion to be honest, hes a fantastic batsman and his career strike rate is impressive so I dont know why you made this poll.... |

you should take a look at morton before critisizing chanderpaul. If one of them is getting dropped, there is a 90% chance that the person is morton. |

Now, Shivnarine Chanderpaul is one of the world's best known batsmen, and one of the best in both forms of the game, but what has concerned me is his scoring rate in the recent Champions Trophy qualifying games. Now, against Zimbabwe chasing only 85 to win, Chris Gayle scored 41 from 34 balls, and Brian Lara scored 24 from 20 balls, however at the other end Chanderpaul scored an unbeaten 14 from just 36 balls, a strike rate of just 38.88. And again, against the Bangladeshis, chasing just 162 for victory, Chris Gayle scored 104 from 118 balls, a strike rate of almost 90, whilst Chanderpaul scored 52, albeit from 104 balls, a strike rate of only 50. So, in games like Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, it wouldn't really matter how slowly he scores because it's likely they'll win, but what happens when they have to chase a total of 300+, because if Shivnarine scores a half-century, but off 100 balls, it's not going to win them the game unless his other team-mates pull back the 50 ball deficit, which could result in them failing to chase down the total. So, do you think Shivnarine Chanderpaul is worthy of a place in one-day cricket for the West Indies unless he sorts his strike-rate out or not? And do you think he is scoring too slowly in the one-day format of the game? Your views.....
