They can win Saad!!! 36 off 22 is gettable , especially if McCullum gets strike.

Marshall goes. McCullum still there on 38*. NZ might have a chance of pulling this off. They need 24 of 12.

Very brave effort by the Kiwis, but 24 off 12 balls with Dan just in is asking too much methinks.

Penultimate over and Lee bowls a beamer at McCullum - very naughty , he's done that to him before! It went for 4 off the edge and rightly no-balled too , that could cost him!!

Brett is destroyed

48.5 The previous ball has been declared no-ball as Ponting had just 3 fielders inside the ring!

what a tragedy

There was a big argument between Ponting and Billy Bowden regarding the no-ball call, The Aussie skipper was seemingly livid, but thats what the rule book says and the the game is to be played accordingly!

Shouldn't you be doing your job...and not be on cricket forums.

I can't believe NZ might pull this off.

4 runs needed of 3 balls. McCullum is on strike.

McCullum goes for 49. An outstanding effort by him. NZ need 4 off 2.

I can't believe this. NZ came back after a bit of a slow down but at the end, they still lost...by 2 runs.

Just got back from this game at the Westpac, what a match. Came right down to the wire, thought we were gonna win it with McCullum and Vettori at the crease, but it was not to be. It was an amazing atmosphere towards the end, the crowd going nuts.

Anyway congrats to both teams as they thoroughly deserve it for this thriller!

NZ could have won this and went on to win the series or lose 2-1 but atleast they would have been remembered as somewhat worthy opponents.

Yea, if more ODIs were like this, they would be a bit more interesting.

A lot of health concerns for both teams ahead of the last ODI.

Here is the article from cricinfo:

Clarke doubtful and Bond out for final match

Cricinfo staff

December 8, 2005

EDITED-Thanks for moving this post JP. I didn't realize that I had posted it in the wrong place.

Australia and New Zealand face health concerns ahead of the final match in the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy one-day series on Saturday with Michael Clarke doubtful and Shane Bond ruled out. Clarke, who scored 82 not out and effected a brilliant run-out during the last over in Australia's two-run win at Wellington, has been suffering from a stomach problem. Errol Alcott, the team physiotherapist, said: "We'll just have to wait and see how he pulls up. "

Bond, the New Zealand strike bowler, who missed the first two matches, has been ruled out of the final game as well. However, it is not all gloom for New Zealand. Stephen Fleming, the captain, might be available for the final fixture after having surgery to remove a tumour from his face. He featured for Wellington in a four-day match against Canterbury this week and scored 62. John Bracewell, New Zealand's coach, said the decision would not be made until Friday.

Lou Vincent, who made a sparkling 71 to lead the New Zealand run-chase in the second match, is likely to play despite being struck on the right leg by a Brett Lee delivery. The blow forced Vincent to use a runner on Wednesday.

Another boring ODI, New Zealand successfully chasing down a record 332 to win, with Styris hitting 101 and McCullum 50 off just 25 balls.

I am surprised that New Zealand chased down a 300+ target against Australia. That's amazing.
