Considering the ammount of people who are on the forum at one time I was thinking perhaps a little chatroom or Tagbox could be in order to cut down the ammount of one line posts and that sort of thing, a place where people can compare players all day long if they want to.

Either as a web-based thing intergrated onto the site or as an IRC style thing perhaps, fast flowing discussions on things like cricket can be pretty interesting. anyway its just an idea.

Cheers,

Chris

Not really, forums and chatrooms have different uses, you cant have properly structured long discussions on a chatroom, they work more for fast flowing debates that fill the chatroom with one line posts. In the same way if someone has something to say that they want everyone to see they cant post that in a chatroom as it will be gone in 10 lines.

A few forums I have worked on have chatrooms attached and they have fairly different functionalities, I havent seen how many members CricketWorld has but the last one I was on had roughly 500 active members yet only about 30 of those used the chatroom, some people like them some don't, the quality of conversation tends to be slightly lower then on forums but assuming the people using it are relativly sensible there can be some good discussions.

Would you like it if there were less "who is the best *inset anything*" and "player #1 vs player #2" around? well maybe not Idont know, was only an idea =P

Maybe I should crawl back into my cave ^^

it's rare that we have more than 12 registered members online so it might end up a quiet lonely place for some 14 year old waiting to pounce on an unsuspecting visitor with "A/S/L?"

Too true Clobs!!

The forum may have many members but a large percentage of those are people who haven't visited the forum in a long time, so I doubt there is enough people online to really have a steady conversation consisting of solely one liners.

Doesn't seem like we have enough people, when I write this there are 3 people inline, that isn't gonna make great discussion is it

Not necessarily lad , I've had some terrific debates with myself - sometimes I even end up agreeing with myself too!

Indeed. It won't be something that's part of the forum anytime soon.

I used to run and admin chat rooms in the good old days of MSN Chat (anyone else remember that) but I'm not sure there are similar facilities on the web these days.

Save for a massive multi-MSN chat, perhaps!

Yes, it was shut down but I've found an alternative and a way of having a chat room.

Only thing is, I have to run it myself so I'd only be able to open it up for maybe an hour or so each evening.

Still not sure whether I should do anything with it though...

I've run a few on IRC networks, http://www.starchat.net for example, which can be fully moderated by an admin and moderated by bots or suchlike, I think battrick use one actually for any members that have seen that.

Saying that most of the replies are right, there wouldn't be enough demand for a full time chatroom although maybe an occasional thing could be good for the odd discussion, i'd use the player of the week thing as an example but thats probably not a good one considering the opinions of the forum =p

I really think it best we leave the forum like it is! A chatroom might just kill the forum's sweetness a bit.
