With so many matches and so many commentators from all around the world for the competition, it may be worth to open a thread to discuss about the commentary in this WC. Firstly the commentary team (in the matches played so far).

Here in India it is broadcasted in Star Cricket. The team (so far) is:
Ravi Shastri
Sunil Gavaskar
Mike Atherton
Ian Botham
David Llyod
Nasser Hussain

How about the commentators in different countries?

Add the irritating Rnjit Fernando to the list. Athar ALi khan, Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja are also on the panel. Manjrekar and Alan Wilkins are also there. Have not seen Tony and Jackman yet.

We may see Jackman once SA start. Tony is in the post match analysis here. So I doubt whether he will be there in the commentary team.

I'm surprised that you didn't hear Ather Ali Khan in the first game Kiran, also Wasim and Ramiz are commentating for all games that are being played in SLN. I think Holding is also there and will be on once WI start playing (tomorrow) we'll have someone from RSA too.

Interesting piece of commentary during the SL/PAK game had Rameez Raja saying:
During the Ind/Pak matches under Imran Khan, Imran was very particular that no one was to give away their wicket to Kapil Dev, doing so would make him furious.
And once even a century vs ind didn't help rameez'z cause, he'd got out to kapil and had to face the wrath of imran's fury.
That's why i always prefer to have ex-cricketers as commentator no matter their proficiency in the language as one gets to hear such inside stories..

Arnold and Ganguly were there in some matches. As Sledge said, there may be more commenators than the players...

Full list so far:
Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar, Sanjay Manjrekar, Saurav Ganguly
Mike Atherton, Ian Botham, David Llyod, Nasser Hussain, Alan Wilkins, Tony Greig
Ranjit Fernando, Arnold
Wasim Akram, Ramiz Raja
Robin Jackman
Ather Ali Khan
Ian Bishop
Mbangwa
Tom Moody

I haven't seen any Australian match so far. Not sure who was commenting.

I think Dany Morisson is there too. And glad not to have Sri Rama Krishnan or whatever the spelling is, Amir Sohail and Arun Lal gracing the com boxes.

Yes. Morisson was there. Shivaramakrishnan and Arunlal are a part of Neo Sports commentary team. So they won't be here.

From Pakistan, would have preferred Iqbal Qasim over Rameez Raja. He used to comment in the 90's. Not seeing him now a days.

He is busy with the cricket academy that he runs. Jamshed Marker and Omer Qureshi were the best that Pakistan produced. Others just dont make the cut.

Zuhair, I do enjoy Shiva, and Donny Morrison is a cool dude in the commentary box.  They like to take the mickey out of Shiva.

Talking of commentary, here are some sentences used by Hindi commentators on Star Sports. absolutely hilarious, it is like comedy + cricket at the same time! sorry about posting the stuff in hindi though, I hope the mods won't mind. only for guyz who can understand the language.

"Do over baaki hai ab... teen over... nahi char over baaki hai abhi"

"meri agar maane to ye out hain our out hi dena caahiye kyunki mujhe lagta hai ki ye out hain"

"Flower jinka matlab phool hai, ek murjhaye hue phool ki tarah ho gaye hain"

"Suresh Raina aisa catch tab bhi le sakte the jab 8 saal ke the"

"Bhartiye chehre ab khil gaye hain, daant nikal aaye hain"

"fast bouncer jhukne par majboor kar deti hai, slow bouncer rukne par majboor kar deti hai"

"achche achche ballebaaz ki batti gul kar dete hai umer gul"

A few of them are funny but nothing hilarious about them Sammie boy. And some comments are really ordinary - thankfully we have much better commentary coverage here.

I'd say very ordinary Zuhair, I do watch star cricket though which gives english commentary, but some times switch to star sports and hear all this stuff. :)

any one who has heard Sourau Ganguly commentating would agree that his views are extremely good and logical. I have read a lot of articles by him too in newspapers and internet, he speaks a lot of intelligent stuff.

Yes Ganguly always comes out with good points, but fails to capture my imagination as a commentator. Feel he's not dynamic or pro-active enough. Doesn't raise the enthusiasm level of me as a spectator. Yes his articles are always a good read but too dull to be a commentator. Seems to still be hugely popular with the masses ( and rightly so). Got huge cheers whenever he was being flashed on the Big Screen.

Sam, why don't you convert those lines into English so I can get a good laugh too.

It won't be much of a laugh when translated. It is mostly based on some rhyming words which may make no sense in English dude. and in the first place, it is not that funny in Hindi either. So, you are not missing on something great mate.
