Cosmetics

Grains

Design of Handle (Oval or Normal)

Long Handle

Short Handle

Super Short Handle

etc etc

I think most normal people use the above criteria when they select a bat, a combination of the above. I think thats pretty obvious.

Not intentionally being insultive of anyone, most people are thick and stupid and fall for marketing hype and ignore all of the above and only go for what they perceive are the bats which their heros are using. And then they feel like fools with their foolish grins after their bats feel like a plank made from hardwood.

Yeah,it really is sad. I see so many kids at practice with their fancy new bats with all the nice stickers, but when you pick it up its no more than a fancy plank.

Generally I speak to other players about their bats see what they think of them. I then go to a shop and test out bats in terms of pick up, weight etc.

808 is a good deal because that comes with toe tek and gm now, the 909 willow is usually as good as the original. Out of the models, its down to your game and favourite shots, all nice shapes

if you are an attacking player off the back foot-duellist

if you are an allround stroke maker-purist

if you are a hard powerful hitter off both front and back foot-maxi

mainly front foot-hero

thats just a guideline to do with the shapes really.

I saw an MRF bat for really, really cheap and it was probably the lightest bat I'd ever picked up. It didn't look to be good quality though.

This is what i do - going by weight means nothing if you havent judged the pickup. I also have a look at the size of the middle and the grain, but to be honest i dont really know a lot about it...in fact i generally take my dad and his vast years of experience with me! I also ask teammates about their bats and i like to try some out in nets now and then. Im getting a new bat this winter, im looking into woodworms

There are too many bat threads around again at the moment - it was to avoid this sort of thing that Sledger created the sticky for bat discussion.

Therefore most of the other bat threads are going to be closed tomorrow morning, so if you want to make a final point or move the discussion to the sticky, this would be the time to do so.
