I am about to go on a U-15 tournament. I am an opening batsman that bowls Leg-Spin. I would like to know, how important are shoes with spikes when you are batting and bowling? Does it make any difference in how well you do? Thanks.

It makes a big difference to bowing in particular, is important for batting though.

They won't make you more talented or anything but are definitely worth getting if you play regularly - the extra grip is very reassuring in all disciplines.

Just gives you peace of mind that your ankle isn't going to slip and snap during the delivery stride =p

If you need 2 to win, on the last ball you've run 1, but slip over coming back for the 2nd because you havnt got spikes.....guess who isn't going to be very popular.

i dont like to wear spikes when bowling because i like my frount foot to rotate a little bit on my delivery stride, but i agree that grip is an issue esspecially in the field

It's very important to bowl in spikes! If you bowl on a surface with a nice sheen, you might slip a bit on the front foot, and guess what, you can damage your groin muscle!!

Then you probably haven't played on a dusty surface fishcake. I played on one once and I slipped a bit more than once but no injury. It affected the delivery though.

I play mostly on artificial turf wickets in Canada. What kind of shoes should I use? I have been using regular cross trainers.

Have cricket shoes get protection for getting hit in the foot with the ball? I thought they were pretty much just trainers with spikes but my friend reckons they have some kind of batting protection?
Thanks ![]() |

Homer, definitley the muliti studded rubber ones will help you out when batting and bowling on Synthetic surfaces
Robotz, spikes give you more grip then rubber's

They probably aren't vital if you only bowl leg spin and trainers are ok for batting

I did get some in the end, which was lucky as the pitch was soaked. The only thing was I found them to rub on the outside of my little toe, but I'm not sure if this is just cause they are new and need wearing in, or possibly because they got quite wet.

If your playing at a decent level then full spikes are essential for bowling.
For batting it really depends on the wicket and on dry dusty surfaces rubber studs are fine and you might just get away with good trainers. Generally though half spikes are best with the spikes set under the ball of the foot and studs screwed into the rear. |

yeah im 14 and play under 15 and i also opern the batting for my team....i would advise for batting u use half spike as when you are batting you dont want 2 be stuck in the crese and you want 2 be nimble...and for bowling you could use the same shoes only if you put the rubber spikes on the bottem half of the trainers....hope it helps m8

Does anyone know a good place to find cricket shoes in America? If nothing else, what is a good general alternative that will just give me good all around support and traction?

Golf shoes would work, probably not as effective, but better than trainers
