"failed to make his mark with the bat", that seems a bit harsh! It was hardly his fault now was it?

The article has the wrong bowler down for Gibb's 6 sixes

Not sure I follow - he scored 1 and 0 in his two innings so far, neither was a run out so I think it's a fair analysis to say he failed with the bat.

I think he was referring to the fact that his dismissal against Pakistan should have been credited to the umpire rather than the bowler

OK. I'll change that as I didn't see the dismissal.
As for the Dutch bowler, that's what happens when the rest of the editorial team swans off to St Lucia leaving me in charge. ![]() |

Unlucky....maybe they'll let you head out to a County Championship match on a freezing cold wet April morning to make it up to you.

I think this week's award should go to Malinga for his outstanding bowling spell against South Africa to take 4 wickets in 4 balls to turn imminent defeat into nearly a stunning victory for the Sri Lankans.

It's got to be Malinga, that was sheer class. I reckon in ten years or so that spell might be his equivalent of The Gatting Ball...

Give it to Fred , a 40-odd , 4 wickets , no beer and 30 hours of swimming lessons - the man's amazing!

Ah come on, in twenty years time is anyone going to be talking about Freddie's 40-odd and 4 wickets? It has to be Malinga

Bit slow today CM - my nomination had my tongue firmly implanted in my cheek. I'll go along with Malinga - as Ritchie would've said ," Fine effort , that" |

You make me laugh Sledge, or maybe its because this forum lacks some humour (the way I spell it anyway).
I'd go along with Malinga...though has Hayden got a century this week? :p however I think Bond is doing exceptionally well without getting the kudos he deserves..
If only some people could understand that his statistics in this WC haven't recently reflected the way he has bowled.

It's true, he's put a lot of pressure on top batsmen without having so many chances to pick up cheap tailender wickets

This week's award was another unanimous decision:

On a county level I'd actually say Craig Kieswetter (Somerset's new wicket-keeper who scored 69 from 58 balls and took 3 catches on his professional debut yesterday). Otherwise I'd go for either Andrew Hall or to Kevin Pietersen for rescuing England from 190-6 against the West Indies and scoring a century to enable them to chase down over 300 for victory.
Edit - Why go for Brian Lara? Player of the Week means the best player of that week, so picking Lara for scoring 33 and 18 is like saying that Glann McGrath is playing of the Week for taking 1-40 and 1-35. Edited by Freddie - 23 April 2007 at 1:02pm |

We went a bit soft and went for a sentimental choice:
http://www.cricketworld.com/media_centre/article/?aid=11037 Well, he'll probably never get a chance to win it again! |

Bravo. I second that.

But surely retiring doesn't justify someone winning Player of the Week award.

The news of his retirement and his send-off did, however, dominate much of the news of the last week.

By which criteria would mean Flintoff should have nabbed it a few weeks back for attempting to scuba-dive off a pedalo whilst half-cut, surely?

When you win the toss - bat.
If you are in doubt, think about it - then bat. If you have very big doubts, consult a colleague - then bat. |
