guys this is incredible. in such a short time he has claimed the first position in icc rankings. he has toppled ricky ponting and those who r calling him fluke should now believe this. he is a very good batsman and he has proved this. i think he might be the second w.k. batsman to top the rankings(after gilly but not sure). what r your comments guys?

common clobber i know they aren't perfect but still he has worked hard and i just want to say that those who r saying that he is a crap player r all incorrect. the rankings do not prove that he is the best at the present but they prove that he is one of the best. he is a good batsman and i feel that we should give him some credit.

common AK we know he has a long way to go. he is very good but its too early to say that he is the best. he has to compete with players like ponting, dravid, inzy etc. but if any of us doubt his abilities, we should see the stats and look at his scores in the matches india have won in chasing. he is able to handle the pressure and he can play sensible as well as attacking cricket. he has played a very imp. role in india's record for chasing.

Bloody Oath the bloke has barely played outside the sub continent,,, Ponting is a proven player on all wickets, all over the world.. He is the no. 1 batsmen.. screw the rankings.. A load of crap and rubbish.

Well mate, the ratings do not offer us a clear indication of who are best in the world.. ie. Since when did Dhoni become better then the rest!!

they seem to be based on very short term periods - to be number one you
should have had to prove yourself against all countries in all
conditions

Dead right Clobber. In terms of raw numbers Dhoni would arguably have the edge over Ponting, but not in terms of experience, adaptability etc.

i m also saying he is not the best but many of the members feel that he is a crap and i just want to say that these ranks r not that rubbish that they will put a crap player in the first slot. he must be having some stuff and thats why he is there at the top. of course he can't be compared with the likes of ponting, dravid, inzy etc but surely he can be compared with the new players who r similar to him,i.e who have played less matches but have a very good avg and s.r.

id like to see how he copes in england, new zealand, asutralia and south africa, then you will be able to see how good he is, forget the rankings, ricky ponting is the best player in both forms of the game at present, and that is a strong comment from me considering im an englishmen!

for goodness sakes he's only been playing for 15 months in international cricket already has 2 hundreds against qaulity opisitions and 8 fifties. He scored 183* at No.3 against Sri Lanka highest ever score by a wicket keeper and his maiden century was a smashing 148 at No.3 against Pakistan.his average is 54.50 and a strike rate of 104 and if your calling him a crap player and dosent deserve to be No.1 on the icc rankings then who does apart from Ponting

where have i put he is a crap player, he isn't, but its better to judge when he has played these countries in their own back yard, because these conditions are so much different to the sub continent, and it wil b einteresting to see hwo he copes with quick zippy wickets with sideways movement, that won't be as easy as the flat tracks he has played on so far.

I never stated that you said that infact I didn't pick out anyone I was just saying people talked about him as though as he was Geriant Jones.Don't worry about different pitches there all the same a 20 yard pitch with a bit of grass on it,hard and the usual it dosent matter what he pitch is right Dhoni is the No.1 ODI batsman

well from the few messages posted over here i feel that all the non-indian members r anti-dhoni. anyways dhoni will have to prove that he can play even in the sub-continent and then i hope he may gain repect among the non-indian members

He's done very well to get to No.1 in the ICC ranking's which you could say is a load of crap Dhoni may not deserve No.1 yet but he certainley deserve's to be in the top.3 he certainly worked hard to get to where he is now No.1

well we love only those players who have played well for india. we also criticise the players who don't perform. but i think u should also learn to respect a player who has performed well. i don't want this topic to get heated but i will like to say that just think abt the stats of a player in 20 odd matches and so what if he plays in the subcontinent. is it useless to perform in the subcontinent?
