Indeed Hugo, not so long ago someone even compared him to Bradman hahahaha

Fact is he hasn't played enough to be judged fully yet, and I do personally believe that his batting style, which involves him planting his feet and swinging hard will be exposed away from the flat, slow wickets of the subcontinent.

With his lack of conventional technique it would  not be a surprose if he struggled against pace and sea, particularly swing at pace in England. His footwork is iffy and he has not really been able to show adaptability as of yet.. My guess is that he will fail in places liek ENgland where it seams and Aust where the bounce can be awkward, particularly to inexperienced players or wristy batsmen.

Dhoni has not put a foot wrong most of the time so far, but for skill, adaptabilty, experience and discipline there are many ahead of him at this point in time.

In 16 months its fabulous that he is NO.1 ODI rankings.
If he hits 1 or 2 centuries and few half centuries, nobodies gonna be able to get him.
He is just 1 point ahead of Rickey Ponting, when ever they play against WestIndies difference is going to be way bigger than 1 point.

Well to be honest , I never suspected him to be at the top so soon, but the guy has an amazing run, infact whatever his technical faults may be (almost every great has a few), he has been consistant and lucky to have had the longest run on the home amd home like soil, and you never know he proves a same average outside, Yes we should not compare with the cricket greats, as it would take another few years, but under given set of ranking rules, he has proven to be the no.1 and we have to accept it.

It will take him few more years to improve. He also needs to improve his Wicket Keeping.

Getting on top is easier but keeping the top position is really a tough job. Dhoni is a slog, not a proper batsman. He got to the top quickly, playing on the flats batting tracks, but i can bet he wouldn't remain there for long, because in the long run no slogger could survive at the top. You need to have some technique and skills to be a great batsman.

Thats the thought I had, a slogger doesnt even servive for that long either, for that matter how consistant have been sloggers like, afridi, Razzack, even on home grounds, Dhoni had a phenomenal run, and I will keep myself from commenting any furthur till he has a series or two outside India.

He got 1st place after they finished series with England, and after that they haven't played, Australia played with BANGLADESH, what do you think Australia wasn't going to make good scores.
I hope Dhoni does well in West Indies.

You see my problem is that I enjoy cricket and anyone who plays positively becomes very dear to me, so Dhoni to me has been a great addition to cricket, and i hope he does well on seamer friendly wickets too, as to lose him will be a loss to cricket's flair.
so far so good!

noone said that buddy, it's just to early to say that dhoni is the best until we see him bat outside of india. Everyone can star on pitches they have grown up playing on, and dhoni has done that without a doubt, but his true test will be playing outside of home. Lets hope he can perform just as well, for india's sake
5-0 You Beauty!!!!!

Dhoni's a good prospect , nothing more just yet. I expect him to do well in the Caribbean too , flat tracks , weak attacks , he'll score runs.

The real test comes later , and everyone with a cricket brain knows where those tests will be.

I hope does well. He made 45 out of 36 balls in the practice match against Jamaica. He had 2 or 3 sixes. I would say he will do good.

well to all the cricket lovers i just want to say that if he performs well in the sub-continent, west indies and on flat tracks and even if he doesn't perform in australia, england then also he will be a very good player as no player performs in each and every county.

by the way when r india tourin countries which r having fast and bouncy pitches

sorry guys i don't have pc in my hostel so i can't use the net very often.

If Dhoni comes second, he hope make half make half century. He got out on 18 in 1st ODI because I think they Indian team needed runs and he wanted to play faster.
