Quite surprised that this subject never came up or had been discussed any earlier.
Sanga decides to step down keeping in my the future of SL cricket and stating that it was time to step forward and move on. Fair enough that, but by appointing command to Dilshan (A year older than his forerunner) ,I rationalize, that they've taken two steps back. Clearly seems to lack the aura of his predecessors, and a little too temperamental for the captain's job. The opposition camps are most likely gonna be training their guns on the new skipper, try and get under his skin, get him to wilt under pressure. Could probably get to witness it their England tour, and surely see it when Australia play them. Watto ,I believe has already fired a volley at him. Interesting and Testing times for Dilshan!!! |

Dilshan have flayed many bowlers around the park the last few years. Fireing up batsmen like his kind isn't a wise thing to do.

Shaun Tait and Ponting may say otherwise.

Not an easy place to start your career as captain, England in May and without Malinga and Murali. They'd best hope the sun keeps shining or it could be pretty tough for the Lankan batsmen.

Maybo Watto has hidden agenda to fire up Dilshan
Clarke won't be a captain for long, get this from me.Clarke is just a deputy material nothign more than that. Watson is the right choice for Australia. Edited by MalhotraRaj84 - 12 May 2011 at 8:20am |

Watson's confidence lately shows a new mentality on his part. I have said in other threads he has been in the past quite mentally frail. However, you can tell that he's actually become pretty switched on and confident. Some of the things you see him do with the ball, like reverse swing and changes of pace/length, indicates to me that he is a thinking cricketer. Also when he bats, he changes his guard against certain bowlers to avoid LBWs. Little things like that show to me that someone is a thinking cricketer. Where as you see Clarke CONSTANTLY getting bowled when leaving the ball, almost as if to say he has poor judgment.
Raj might be on to something. Watson has leadership aspirations and I think Clarke might get pushed out pretty quickly if he loses a couple of test series. Watson could be the right man and he is the best cricketer in the side, now that Ponting is on the wane. Best cricket being the captain can sometimes be the right move. Sachin and Lara never did well as skippers and they are greats of the game, but it's clear that neither were real leaders and they did seem to be burdened. But then you get the likes of Waugh, Border, Wasim, Imran, Kapil Dev, just to name a few who were amazing captains and were also the best player/one of the best players in the team. |
