A nice little explanation, but Dravid has won many matches for India too.

I wouldn't actually agree that Ponting takes that much more risk - he is actually a very pragmatic batsman. You could argue that he is willing to unfurl some shots earlier in his innings than Dravid generally would but I wouldn't interpret that as taking risks.

County Sim on extended break until I've got less work and more free time. When I have a specific date, I'll post it in the thread.

Finally...a proper comparison. Dravid and Ponting are both great batsman. Both have a great technique and all! They both have great stats. They are both currently their countries' premier batsman. They have both been a gift for their respective countries. But in the end I would choose Ricky Ponting over Rahul Dravid! His approach is more aggressive then Dravids and that's the only reason I like him over Dravid. But that doesn't mean that its bad for Dravid. Sure Dravid plays slow, but he is almost impossible to get out...that's why he's called a wall!?!

Dravid is hard to get out, I get nervous watching Ponting sometimes because he usually gets himself out. But thats after he scores his usual 50+

Ponting still the batter of this decade

That's right. He keeping up his average in every single match. He not like other players who play in one and then make 0 in next.

It doesn't matter if Rickey Ponting has better average than Dravid. Dravid keeping up his score in consecutive games.

both of you...arent we ment to discuss the players not their pressures? anyway for me it would be dravid simply because he's better playing genuine turn on geniune turning wickets. ponting maybe better to watch but as a player dravid's better due to sound technique which is effective against pace and geniune turn on genuine turning pitches. anyway was the point "sehwag" trying to make earlyer, that ponting doesnt have to face mcgrath or warne?

If we talk about all round Dravid is a much better Dravid trys his best to just kepp the sportsmanship in cricket wheras ponting whinges whenever he doesn't get his own way. He trys to bully the ICC because he captains australia Dravid and him a very equal in batting
The First Century I ever saw was Heschelle Gibbs' 228 against Pakistan

Ponting is a better player in my opinion. Dravid just sticks around for 7 hours, gets a 50 then plays a stupid shot and gets out.

to stick out for 7 hrs is a big test Mr. slogger. it needs a lot of patience and concentration. he is a real test player and all the ones who have deep interst in cricket would like to watch him. i admit that i also don't like watch him much but i also don't have that deep interest.
sorry guys i don't have pc in my hostel so i can't use the net very often.

Most of credit for winning 17 games goes to Dravid. He is consistent in batting and he will be. He also stay on the crease for the long time to help out. He's slow but he helps a lot.

What a load of crap!!

How has ponting bullied the ICC ???? And how is he unsportsmanlike as your comment suggests ??? Sure he blew up about the runout in the ashes, but that is 1 glitch on an otherwise fine record. Was it not he who called for batsmen to take the word of fielders on controversial catches, yet all the other captains declined!!!!

As for whinging when he doesn't get his own way, please explain, if this were the case he would be arguing every decision given against him!! He copped the ashes defeat on the chin, accepted it gracefully, and didn't offer any excuses, or "whinge" as such about anything. He had every right to question the tactics of the english fast bowlers trips on and off the field, as it was not only questioned by the australians, but by many around the world.

I suspect Mazzy was referring to Ponting's habit of going up blubbing to the umpires every time a decision goes against them in the field

dunno about everytime clobbs, but he had a legit reason to in bangladesh, the umpire in question had no problem with it either.

In any case i wouldn't exactly call it a habit, watching the 2 series against SA (where the whole debate stems from) there were 2/3 moments when ponting did approach the umpires, and neither of them were "whinging" to the umpires as such.

Honestly Clapo he was at all the time so nailing it down to one specific example is beyond me.

Evidently I was not the only one to notice this, as Duncan Fletcher wrote in his book -

"Whenever a decision went against Australia during the series, did you notice how Ponting would invariably walk up to the umpire and challenge his decision using overbearing body language?

"Is that what we really want kids to see when they watch cricket? Is that really in the spirit of the game?

"Did you ever see Michael Vaughan or any of the England players challenge the umpires in that manner?"

i honestly didn't notice it! but on the same token, there were more than our fair share that went against us, but lets not bring that up again. Leave it until november
