Ticket prices being too high for the local fans, sponsors taking large ticket allocations then not using them

Yeah besides the ticket prices being too high, there are also a lot of processes you have to go through in order to purchase the tickets and plus there are sooo many regulations about what you can and cannot carry to the ground. You can't carry any food to the grounds (at least I don't think so). For the warm up matches here in Trinidad a man just had a water bottle or something like that and I don't think he was allowed to take that in the ground!!!!!! Now that's just crazy!!!! maybe the ground deserves to be this empty....it could be like a stand against the authority for all the treatment that the people think are unfair.

THe WC's not exciting yet. Nobody wants to see a match where they won't know the full outcome of it until 2 weeks after it took place. It'll get busier during the laster stages of the Super 8's.

I dont think thats the reason. In the earlier world cups, I remember seeing the grounds atleast 70-80 % full before the last few matches of the tournament.

Tickets too damn expensive. Who will spend a few hundred of dollars for one match when it's much cheaper tp watch it on tv. Only the travelling fans can afford it. |

Yeah, prices are ridiculous for the WC. The prices are very high for the locals. About 100 pounds is the cheapest for tickets for the finals. You won't see many locals there for sure.

Sledger and I were talking about it earlier. Its ridiculous. Why not sell tickets at a cheaper price for atmosphere? Plus if people aren't allowed to bring stuff into the ground then there obviosuly going to make money from people buying good and drink, ect.
From were I stand its the ICC that need to clean up there act.

The stands were looking good today, most likely because of their home team's game.

The ICC have taken a lot of flak over ticket pricing - and
rightly so! There's also the problem of overseas supporters
buying a package that includes tickets for matches they've no intention
of attending. Those matches might be on another island from where their
team is playing and the cost of travelling just makes it not worthwhile.
So the ICC say that ticket sales have been good , but that doesn't seem right when one looks at attendances. The TV cameramen focus on little pockets of supporters to try and create atmosphere for their audience - it might fool the under 6's , but the rest of us know they're fighting a losing battle. |

Its quite sad. I had a totally different picture in my mind before the WC started. The trini posse, music, dancing in the stands etc., none of that seems to be happening.

The location of the new stadia are also a problem scuudz - most
are a considerable distance from the towns. There's an article in
today's Daily Telegraph by Mike Atherton that highlights his concerns
over attendance figures , it's worth checking out.

I'll do that and yea I know what you mean about the location of the new stadia. I saw a picture of the Providence Stadium in Guyana and from what I saw it looked like it was in the middle of nowhere.

Yes it is. From articles I've read about cricket in the
Caribbean (sadly , I've yet to get there) the old grounds were easily
accessible and most locals walked to the matches. Security seems
to upset the locals too - they were used to coming and going in the old
days , something that seems impossible at this world cup.
What disappoints me is that the ICC haven't reacted to the poor attendances - would it be so difficult to introduce say a $5/10 entrance fee at the turnstiles for locals on matchday? Looks rather logical to me. |

Its pitiful really. Has it become so much about money that we trade the soul of the game for it??
Sadly, the answer is yes.

It would suck a bit if you had already bought a ticket at the higher price though
