Topic: England v Bangladesh Posted: 07 June 2005 at 8:36am |
Firstly, had he tried it against a more experienced and savvy batsman, he'd have been in trouble as they wouldn't have walked, the third umpire would have been called, he'd have been given not out and a suspension or fine should then have been considered.
The fact is the batsman walked, giving himself out before the umpires could make the decision. You can't fine someone for deceiving the batsman.
I'm not in the right position to comment on bias of decisions, being English but I'm sure if he tries anything in the Ashes he could be in trouble.

Well basically the English (no offence) will be the first to call Aussies cheats even though with players like Gilly Australia are actually one of the most honest teams in the world but when the boot is on the other foot....i hope notone single player walks when there is a catch behind and let's see whether the umpires call it for Jones?
The story of the boy who cried wolf comes to mind here...

I think he's walking something of a tightrope now, as if he tries it again he surely can't get away with it. The Aussies will obviously know about all this, and I can imagine a few of them not walking if such a situation should arise again.

Oh yeah you can beleive it and you know McGrath'll be like when he goes upto bowl i mean he's a king sledger not to mention Jones will take some grief because he has ties to being from PNG (Papua New Guinea) and Australians will take that out of him a bit anyway.
I guarantee you someone will comment (from the Australian camp) of Jones's cheating ways.

Plus the fact he was brought up, educated and learnt his cricket in Australia - that won't be forgotten. I was going to mention the sledging, and I doubt it will bring out the best in him, I'm afraid. A quick 10 ball 20 then out rather than what we hope and expect our wicketkeeper to do.
I shall henceforth start the campaign for Matt Prior to be taken to the sub-continent in the winter.

Hehe and let's face it he's no great shakes behind the stumps either.
He's a player that i dislike more than maybe any other barring Rahul Dravid.
He's so annoying bouncing about behind the stumps like a damn baboon!
Am i the only one who thinks he belongs in the jungle instead of on the pitch?

Agreed. Foster, Prior, Read and probably others are better. He does not give the team the runs that he was brought in to do, but seeing as Fletcher and Vaughan went with him without consulting the rest of the selectors, they can't really drop him as they'll look stupid. I'd be quite happy for them to look stupid if it meant we had someone better behind the stumps.

Have to admit I hadn't noticed this. Is this a recent thing (ie South Africa/Bangladesh games as I haven't seen any of them)?

Well its been a trait of his for years. He sort of has the wicketkeepers equivelant of Shep's full nelson (you know what this is right when he does all the hoping on 111,222,333 and so on) and he looks like an ape!
Plus even when England celebrate wickets and stuff he's always on the outside of the circle trying to get in the middle with his arms about everywhere. Next thing he'll be beating his chest and scratching himself.

I'd drop him for dropping things and not contributing with the bat - you'd drop him for apeing about like an animal.
Either way, Prior is the way to go.

Yeah we'd both drop him i mean the reason is a bit accademic though i'd leave him as thwelfthve (spelling?) man so that when the drinks and refreshments were brought out during drinks breaks he could certainly help with the peeling of the bannanas no?
I say bring back Jack Russel! England need a scruffy beggar behind the stumps again!
I haven't seen much of prior so i don't reall know what he's all about but he and or Read would be much better than Jones.

Prior is only 23, so is definitely a good prospect for the future, he had a very successful A-tour to Sri Lanka and has already looked competent in the one day setup (granted this was against Zimbabwe) but at least he didn't fail!
I'd still pick Read. We keep banging on about how good our middle order is yet we feel we have to have a wicket-keeper who can bat as well. It's like we think we have to have a Gilchrist or an Andy Flower. The sooner we accept we haven't, the better.

Yeah i think you hit the nail on the head there. England's players player for player are just not as good as the Australians and it is about time they accepted that.
Read looks a good choice to me but what do i know. I just know that he won't swing down from the pavillion from a branch of the local tree!
