Onions is sharp and hostile - he pinned Darren Maddy on the grill during a T20 match down here with sufficient force that Dazza had to retire hurt, although at the moment I'd describe him slightly on the rough and ready side rather than ready for international cricket.

Thanks mate - it's encouraging that the lad's got some pace though , you can improve line and length as he matures.

I think it's a good move. At least let him back up his constant whinging about him not being in England squads.

yeh but i wreckon it wont be for long! Now that Darren has talked his way into the team, im sure Andre caddi£k will be rehearsing his media conferences! Only recently, he told a newspaper that he is the best bowler in the country...this is when Freddy, Harmy and Hoggy, jones had been bowling well! I think some cricketers dont know what it means to leave on a high or your dignity intact! you would want to be rememberd as a great player of your time, not a player who just played on when he talents had been drained out of him as a result of the aging process!

Imran Khan, most of the windies players from the 80s, Atherton, hussain, wasim Akram, saeed anwar( last inns was a 100 against india) to mention but a few who retired whilst some where near their peak and will always be remembered for that!

Exactly Inzy ! Seeing a top bowler (and Gough WAS one!) getting belted around the park by lads he used to knock over easily is very disheartening.

Retirement must be a difficult thing to accept , but the top men have done it down the years and in all sports.

Steve Waugh , Nasser Hussain and Graeme Pollock (to name but three) retired immediately after scoring an international hundred - isn't that the most fantastic way to sign off?

I admired Goughie , he was at his best when England were dire - but he ran in , time and time again - he really was a terrific trier . I don't want to see him humiliated next week , but I fear I might...

He wasn't a bad batsman either. Could make some runs on thw whole total. I remember that series last year before the Ashes he was the top scorer with 50 for England. He single handedly won the game for them. Almost won it for them. He had 51 run partnership with Harmison. In that Harmison made 1 and Gough 50.

Yep I would hate to see Goughie end on a embarrasing note because he was one of my fave cricketers! Then again you never know, cricket is a funny game!

If he fails in bowling, he can always make up in his batting although that is a weird thing to say.

He can always do a samba during the intervals! He seems to be a good mover, with his time at strictly come dancing!

If he gets wickets he might even create a knew dancing celebration!

HahaA Dravid Fan. It was a BBC programme in ENgland called strictly come dancing. you are paired up with a partner from the opposite sex and work togather on various numbers and perform infront of judges and audience and you get voted in or out based on how well u performed! THis is the reason he didn't go to the sub continent tour!

I think many people want to see him fail which is a terrible attitude for a once great bowler. Gough can offer alot to England even if he can't be the same strike bowler of yesteryear.

I can speak for myself and i know eventhough im a pak fan id love for Goughie to have a good series! He is such a great character and has been a wonderful trier for England when they were poor! However, my question to you TCA..how will the England team take to Goughie, when he has criticised the inclusion of some of the players he will be playing with? It could an awkward time in the dressing room!

It might unless they have had an understanding or if Gough apologises.

Gough has a big mouth ok. We all know it. He's arrogant and has a huge ego. But one thing we know is that he gives 100%. I think he's a very popular member of the dressing room and generally a nice person so he would easily fit back in. He just needs to have some respect for other players and the courtesy not to comment on our players problems.

True he has a big mouth, but like you mentioned he does give a 100%! i think he said something along the line of im better than some of the bowlers who are currently playing and that they were not good enough to play for england! Im sure even Sachin would have a difficulty going back to the indian dressing room if he said somthing like that about some of the players!

i cant imagine guys going to gough for advise....they know what he thinks already about their bowling!

Well thats unacceptable from Gough. I can understand why he constantly puts his case foreward to be in the England team. His time is running out and he's desperate to get noticed and get back in the England set up. If that means interviews, media attention or whatever he will get it. He knows he has a deadline of the world cup and he wants to get noticed by the selectors in any way possible so they find it hard to omit him.

He shouldn't have done that. Going to have a bad time in the dressing room mate.

Yep, so on these grounds i wreckon he should not have been slected! You cannot throw your dummy out and criticise young players for you ommission from the team! its no professional and i would have thought its not the Gough of years ago where he would support all youngsters in the team!

I sware on my own life that I saw a speed gun measure Dazzler at 84.7 mph against Sussex a week ago. The Dazller has lots to give yet. Everyone in the changing room likes him because he's a joker and I remember reading a book where Freddy Flintoff had just got a pair and Darren Gough pinned up a picture of Jordan with her tits out with a message saying "nice pair Freddy." THE DAZZLER IS A LEGEND, HIM AND  BROAD WITH THE NEW BALL AND ENGLAND WILL BEAT PAKISTAN OR INTERNATIONAL XI!!

Darren Gough appears to be an old ball specialist and I think we will struggle against Pakistan. I hope Michael Yardy gets a game.  He is a good player.
